Spinning roof retaining bolt

Hi all.

I have just finished fitting my seats and was putting the roof back on.
Last bolt then wham! It just spins. It wont undo, or redo.

I am guessing the captive nut has come lose?

Now, how do I fix?

Part 22 in this diagram is just spinning

I had this, and it was part 16 not being seated properly at the front…

I have the roof off now , but I can only assume the captive bolt has come loose?

Congratulations, you now own an Elise. :frowning:

I think you’re going to have to go digging for that rivnut, replace and reglass

It feels like it’s attached to the bolt , I can’t get the bolt out!

Bloody thing. Teasing me.

I have zero GRP experience, This might get contracted out .

sure I took the roof back off, then started with that corner - maybe the issue I had was different

I appreciate your guidance fella.

I have whipped the roof off , but the bolt isn’t going in or out. I am pretty sure the captive nut is not captive any longer

Andy its not too difficult to do, if you research fibreglass bobbin replacement/repair then this will help you.
If you can still get a copy Miles Wilkins from fibreglass services did a great book.

Lee - that is useful. Thank you. Ill take a look for the book and how my roof is made up of.

You might have saved me buying a full mohawk carbon roof that I had convinced myself I needed …

If you factor in time, I’m sure you can convince yourself a carbon roof is cheaper, somehow

For reference later after work …

I have a similar challenge with my tailgate, I can’t adjust the height of my “stoppers” because of spinning captive nuts but luckily my tailgate lines up properly so it’s a back burner stuff for now.

Carbon tailgate sounds good

Carbon tailgate and roof panel sounds even better …

I think I am going to attempt the repair.

I am working the following principle

  1. I attempt a repair and it works but if that doesnt work
  2. I can goto a bodyshop if they cant fix it
  3. I can do the usual thing and fix it by throwing cash at it and go carbon roof . See point 4 after purchase
  4. Ill request a bodyshop paints the carbon roof in a semi transparent silver coat like the Ferrari F40 for maximum show off effect
