Just a word of warning, there was a thread on here a week or so back about wheel spacers/spigot rings.
I went to Llandow on Monday with the guy that bought my MkI Golf track car to do a mag shoot. He had fitted some new wheels and the spigot rings werent the right size for the Golf hubs. After 15 mins of lets say hard driving we came in so the snapper could do some low speed pics, they got about half way round the lap (doing about 30mph) and heard a strange sound so slowed down to 10mph and the front wheel just fell off. Because the spigot ring was the wrong size it hadnt centred the wheel on the hub right putting the entire load on the wheel studs and hitting the kerbs for a few laps had ripped them out of the hub.
Damage was minimal but if we did 1 more lap at max chat I dont think he would have got away with it so lightly.
So all you Speedline boys with spacers please make sure they are fitted right I would hate to hear of any big off’s because of this.
AS mentioned elsewhere I use speedlines with NO spacers, and no problems.
Same here.
I believe this is at the heart of stevegreen’s argument for it being a poor engineering solution and I think he’s right.
Is it not possible though, to get spacers with a spigot ring on them that locates over the original, so they simply mimic the hub exactly, but displaced a few mm?
I ran spacers on my E30 M3 Track car without problem. These were used not to overcome hub/spigot size problems but to simply allow for a slight increase in track. Anyhow, when I got these made up I was quite particular about having spacers with with the right tolerences to fit snugly over the spigot(??) on the hub and likewise to position the wheel. I also had some longer wheel bolts.
My point is I think you should be able to get spacers will safely do the job but it is important that you do get it right and don’t compromise. I too know of people who have had horror experiences with poorly fitting spacers or not compensdating with longer wheel bolts.

I kow I’m way out there on this…but…talking about spacers and NOT compromising in like being an acrophobic mountain climber

heheh ok ok I concede… money no object you get the exact wheels you want made with the correct offset etc etc. What I’m trying to say is that if you get spacers made properly then they represent a negligible compromise compared to the more expensive route of new wheels.
