Spigot / Flange.. and other funny words..

Questions for Exige owners:

  1. How far does your hub/spigot protrude through your brake bell ?

  2. Does the hub of your alloy wheel have a chamfered edge where it meets the car’s hub/spigot ?

Reason, seems on my car the spigot only protrudes a few mil’ and the inner edge of the alloy hub is chamfered such that there’s hardly any/no purchase on the hub… (meaning it’s only being located on the bolts) Hmm…

Geary @ Eliseparts mentioned that there may be plastic inserts in the wheel to remove this chamfer…

Interesting, as I was looking at this on Wed night.

I have a 2-3mm 45o-ish ‘chamfered’/bevelled/etc edge on the inside centre of both the std Rimstocks and the Speedlines.

There is a tell-tale mark of Coppaslip of about 2-3mm showing how far the spigot goes into the wheel. The reason I checked was because of AndyD’s concern that 3mm spacers for the Speedlines could mean there was no spigot inside the wheel. But I’m not sure if the tell-tale Coppaslip mark has been caused by an occasion when the spacers were left off.

I was going to ask a Lotus mech tomorrow, as far as I know the Edwards and Russ have been running spacers for a while, as did the Elise Motorsport cars I believe, although I’m not sure if they have different hub set-ups with longer spigots.
