Speedo down

Had my car serviced today with a good geo ready for Anglesey. Went to have a quick test drive and the speedo was dead. Everything checked out on the sensor side so disconnected the battery as suggested by the man from Lotus when reconnected went straight to 40MPH and stayed their. Tried this a few more times each time it would jump another 40 and stay their. At one stage i reversed out of the garage doing 160MPH. When we finally gave up the speedo had gone all the way round to the stop, the wrong side of zero. Then all dash lights went + blower and air-con. The only things working was the trip/ temp and the revs. I am pretty sure this was just coincidence with the other work that went on and as usual Ollie at Phoenix was brilliant and i had to drag my car off him to get my tea out of the dog.

Any ideas??? I am kind of glad the air-con and blowers stopped working as hopefully this means it doesn’t need new clocks.

That sounds strange, I has a similar problem with mine a year ago is it the black style faced dash ?
I just took out the fuses one by one and put them back in and everything worked again.
I am taking mine for a service on Friday to Phoenix.

Battery voltage ok?

I had that as well, just take the fuses out or disconnect the battery

All fixed!, apparently we had not been disconnecting the battery for long enough. A Lotus service guy said try a minimum of ten minutes, so i did and it worked. :unamused: I think i will invest in a new battery anyway as this was obviously the problem.

Good news

This is your friend

It’s supplied with a very neat cable that can be permanently connected to your battery so it can be plugged in without disturbing the battery.
Not just a charger but a conditioner too. Will also tell you if you battery is not as it should be.
Best gismo I’ve bought. IMHO

My car lives on a trickle charge in the garage. I think i have been keeping it artificially alive past its sell by date. It works fine keeping it on trickle but i guess a day sitting in a freezing cold garage while it was serviced has upset it.

I have been looking at these as a direct replacement.

But noticed these Extreme race jobbies, are these just a new updated version or are they for a different application.

I have the PC680 ‘Extreme’ battery

Does appear to be a direct replacement for the OEM battery.
