i think this needs posting on seloc ect to as i used to run these wheels on elise clams and they fit fine and look great and that should get a few more orders to.
Just looking at that pic of Ian’s car at Donington, I really hope that view down the start/finish straight is one that I’ll enjoy with foot pressed into the boards in 2010
Once I get an idea of ‘firm intended’ orders, I will give them a buzz. Think it would be better to present them with a proposition they cannot??? refuse!!!
Spoke to Dave at Speedline again this am. I told him I reckon there would be ‘firm’ orders for about 40 wheels… he seemed quite pleased with that idea!
As a bit of background, they have changed the foundary in Italy, and there has been a lot of demand for their core race mag wheel products for F3 etc, but now that things have calmed down, he seemed pretty positive that something could be done. The moulds are still about (they are the original 10 year old ones so the product would be the same) but he needs to check if the foundary’s machines can handle the actual mould structure.
I asked about an ally equilivent… cannot do from the same mould as the structural set-up is totally different, and it costs circa 20-30K to produce a new mould!
Cost TBD… But I cannot see it being a lot different from last year now that ‘metal’ material prices have returned to more normal levels… As fas as Admin5’s point about the ‘leaking’ wheels are concerned, Dave told me this was traced to a single batch and this problem has been resolved. For sure they would not go down the route of an order like this only to have probs!
Dave is hoping to get back to me before the end of the week with an indication of yes or no… either way this is obviously good to know!
Not trying to discourage anyone as I’ve got Speedlines myself but are these wheels still the ET12 rear offset ones that require spacers, which then mean the wheel no longer locates on the central spigot?
For info, the usually recommended 3mm spacers are still 4mm short of retaining the same offset as the Rimstock wheels. Plus you’ll also need a set of radiused wheelnuts as there were only ever a few sets of Speedlines made with the tapered seats.
