Speedline Corse identification question

Hi all,

I posted a couple of adds looking for a set of Speedline Corse for my S1.

I’ve found 5 sets for sale. 2 in Germany (one brand new and boxed), 1 in Malaysia and 2 in the U.K.

Quite a range of prices I have to say too. From a quick exchange with Speedline themselves (just checking no NOS ones laying around (!) they don’t make magnesium wheels anymore they just do alloy. And have been making a similar wheel again for the VX220.

For the Exige I have the below detail dimension wise;

Front Rear
6J x 15 Size 8J x 16
ET14 Offset ET10
95.25 PCD 95.25
5,5kg Weight 7kg

I just want to ask from those in the know. Is there a symbol or marking to confirm they are the original magnesium wheel rather than an alloy wheel?

And looking back at earlier Exiges.com threads am I right I need Elise wheel nuts and a wheel spacer to run them?

Any advice appreciated. Clearly not cheap so just want to check on buying I don’t miss something and get it wrong.

Cheers James

But 15 front 16 rear are Elise S1 sizes not Exige S1.
Mag Speedlines were available also in Exige 16 front and 17 Rear sizes …

Sorry you’re 100% re sizes I lifted the detail from Seloc wrongly. But ID question re magnesium verses alloy still there if anyone can help?

Didn’t know these where ever made in anything other than Mag? Could be wrong, but sure I read there were a couple of different batches made over the years with different markings, possibly with different offsets???

I paid £1400 for mine a couple of years ago, including the tyres. You can see in the photo they definitely need rear spacers, fronts look about right!

Can take some closeups of the markings if it helps?

That would be great if ok. A helpful chap on seloc mentioned that the magnesium wheels have a casing / insert in the stud hole I guess for strengthening. Be great to know what that looks like.

they look vey similar to a Compomotive alloy, I think they are MO5. if they are close enough maybe they do them in magnesium.

I know that Speedline will still make magnesium wheels as I was involved briefly in the group buy of the VX220 speedlines you mentioned, they just wanted a minimum order.

Thanks for reply. I contacted SL with the same idea, maybe a small group buy of new wheels for interested owners.

Feedback from them was they only make alloy wheels now, they referenced the VX group buy. But that could of been incorrect feedback it was just what I was told by the chap I dealt with :person_shrugging:

i found out the other day that the vxr wheels werent magnesium they were just alloy, theres been a number of attempts to get a group buy on these but the increase in weight, cost and minimum order required didnt really allow it to happen.

How to find out if your wheels are magnesium: Find a bare metal spot on the back of the rim and apply a drop of vinegar to it; if the vinegar bubbles up, then the wheel is magnesium (copied from Google, but appears to work!)

Kevin - thanks for the pictures and the advice - absolutely brilliant. Really appreciated! I’ll update you on my success to pick up a set soon :+1:
