I lived in Rochdale pre marriage, so was quite used to seeing Harry/Jeff/Rev Rupert Jones driving around, plus watching them at Oulton & various hillclimbs.
In fact, I had a Harry Ratcliffe tuned 1098 A Series engine in my first sportscar - Frogeye Sprite. Can you believe it was painted metallic purple with metallic orange stripes?
And reading all that is not getting me anywhere near sorting out my tax code with HMRC.
You have a lot to answer for Mr P not just on here but over on Nyloc!

Don’t blame me, you started it on Nyloc with your “Baitings Dam”
Batings Dam , that’s the most boring, desolate Hillclimb on the planet[/quote]
LOL - but as a spotty faced, skint, petrolhead yoof, it was a good day out ie it cost nowt to watch from on top of the dam wall. Could only afford to go Oulton if my dad was paying!
Jeff used to set up my race mini and remember fondly going across to GRV in littleborough when they had been “working” on it.
Was a real aladins cave of all things mini and the things he used to build for Norman Grimshaw were magic the certainley knew there way round minis.
Remember the car being on the rollers (not strapped down ) with old Harry in the drivers seat and the rest of them tinkering. Come to think of it I did rather well that weekend at Oulton !
They liked to push the envelope if you catch my drift
Makes really interesting reading - amazing what they got up to with V8s into minis, alternative fuel injection systems and superchargers; who they raced against including Graham Hilland Phil Hill and where they raced - Targa Florio. Epic.
Especially enjoy seeing the current circuits as they were and with huge crowds.
