Spacer on steering wheel

Does anyone know if it is possible to fit a spacer on an airbag steering wheel like in a 2008 Exige S240 ?
take a pick : my arms are too short or my legs are too long to sit comfortably.
Is there room to fit a spacer on the steering wheel ?
Will the airbag explode in my face ?
thanks !

I had a similar but opposite problem
Short legs, long arms (chimp like)
So I put a small spacer under the front seat mounts that just raked the seat back enough to make me comfy.
may be you could do the same but on the back seat mounts??

yeah, I thought about that, but as i’m 1.87cm, I couldn’t get in the Exige with my helmet on if I raked the seat forwards !
If I slide the seat too much forward, I hit my knee when shifting gears (LHD, so I hit my knee downshifting to 2nd gear, which happens a lot !)
In my previous Elise 111R, without airbags, I fitted a 3cm spacer, wich was perfect.
In Belgium you cannot remove an airbag steering wheel if fitted from factory. Local MOT is a pain in the a.

I’m short arms, short legs and large headed (cretin like), any ideas?

Drive a Porsche

looks to me like the air bag is self contained in the centre of the wheel
But 30mm is quite some spacer!

great info guys !
Nobody did fit a spacer ?

Doesn’t look like it but I’m hoping someone has and does reply as I’d quite like one too. Maybe try searching the threads on lotustalk?

here I have a reply from Lotustalk.com :
“No wheel will not explode in your face, unless you are part T-rex; but you did not say anything about a big hea and short arms . There is enough space in the wiring that you could have a machine shop mill a 1.0 inch to 1.5 inch spacer from some 6061 aluminum. And you would not need to mess with wire splicing.”

Just saw this on Eliseparts website for their snap off steering wheel:
Removable Steering Wheel kit.
Since the demise of Snap Off we have been searching for a proper removable steering wheel kit that is suitable for the Elise AND without the sole reliance of ball bearings.
We could not find one so we designed our own with SPLINES, it works great, its the shortest /lightest available and can be used with our bespoke adaptors should you wish to bring the steering wheel closer to the driver.
It also gets around the fiddle-some wiring issues that Snap Off kits suffered from.

Could be what you’re looking for?

well, it might. But a removable isn’t a must for me.
At the end of the week I’ll try to fit this on the OEM airbag steering wheel. Yvo thought it should work !

Well, here’s what I want. Apparantly it can be done. I’ll try to get it done on friday…

ok, so the spacer is fitted. the back of the steering wheel needed just a little shaving so that the spacer would fit, but with long bolts, everything went on quite easily (so my mechanic said). Even with a 3cm spacer, there is some slack left on the wires of the airbag. 4cm would be maximum.
