SPA Wiring Harness

Hi,

I’m going to get the SPA dual oil pressure and temp guage, and see from previous posts that there may be a problem with the wiring harness being too short to stretch to the dash. If I’m asking them to make up a special harness how long should I go for?

The plan is to mount it in one of the air vents, not on a pod infront of the gear lever.

Cheers
Will.

Dont know since your goiing to mount them in on of the air vent… but infront of the gear lever u need 3.6 m… so you could just measure from the gear lever to the vent.

I made up 6m looms so that sounds about right as I had some to spare

Thanks, I’ve ordered one with a 6m harness. Better too long, than too short

From memory 6m should be fine, but I’ll check what I asked for at home tonight. It does depend a little on where you’re mounting them, I have mine mounted in front of the gearstick.

Also, get them to add the external alarm wires, which aren’t normally included.

The service Spa gave was great. They did a very rapid exchange with my original looms at no cost.

got a photo from the back of the mounting plate? I’m interested to see how you managed to tiy the cables up and keep them out of sight.

If the mounting plate is the same as mine (ordered from Trickster on Pistoneheads) it is not deep enough at the side to hide the wires. I solved it with a plantpot

I’ll try and sort one. Not scientific, just good tie-wrapping.

Looks like I might have gone for nearer 4m on the looms.

Ian

brilliant photos - either you are double jointed or your car is in bits - thanks.

One question - what is the red button for?

Double jointed with a 17mm lens!

Each SPA gauge has a single button for setting/resetting it’s myriad of functions. I wanted them accessible but out of the way. Lotus had handily left two unused holes up there that I just made slightly larger.

ps. Thought you might spot the string, which is a draw-string for the alarm wires to behind the dash pod. There’s a hole back there that they’re fed through but is was a devil of a job to run them in so I left another draw there just in case.

No - but noticed you have left the tail on the ty-wrap, one of my pet hates…but I was too polite to mention it before

Too worried about accidently cutting a wire and having to do it all again!

It’s not like you can see them.

but everyone knows it is there now

AND IF I FIND ANYBODY UPSIDE DOWN IN MY FOOT WELL AT DONNY!..

so reminder list for Donny:

  • non-contact thermometer - maybe run a sweepstake for the hottest brakes and tyres - not sure enough people will be bringing girlfriends to include them as a category

  • small sidecutters (and stainless steel mirror - so I don’t have to be upsidedown)
