Some basic s2 suspension questions

I have been looking at some of the pictures from my last track day and my car certainly has quite a roll on in the corners. It is an NA. car with touring pack. I am nowhere near ringing the best out of it yet and I am not a driving god. I know the message of Nirtons but they are quite a bit if dosh and probably wasted on me.

Is a sports anti roll bar worth it, is it stiffer than the touring version in the “normal” position? Second hand pack billies come up from time to time, are they any good? They are cheap!

I do not want to go nuts on the spend as I may change the car soonish and, as I said, it will be a bit wasted on me.

Informed advice please ( oh this is Exiges not Seloc, less of a risk)

Would it be wise to wait to see if you are keeping the car first? Are you planning many more track days this season too?

I don’t think an upgrade of dampers is wasted on anyone tbh, it’ll make the drive better which will in turn up your confidence, speed and skill levels. However I only say this from my experience, changing from Bilsteins to 36mm then to 46mm Ohlins was something akin to an epiphany, there really was a difference that huge each time.

And here’s me ditching ohlins for bilsteins !
30 mm higher suits the streets tho…

I replaced my Oem billies on my 06 na car after a coupe of oulton park track days with 36 mm 2 way ohlins as like you was surprised at the roll on pics I saw and also figured I could improve cornering speed with better suspension and correct set up.
I’m no god of road or track either, just an enthusiastic amateur.
The new suspension teamed with the lower cam change re-flash via chrs Neil’s and lotus was a revelation.
Speed down main start finish straight rose by 12-15 mph and the car felt more capable in the bends and faster out of them.
This was a combination of practice, re-flash and suspension. You can soften them right off for road driving so they aren’t hard core all the time.
I have since added an arb as I starting to get under steer in some bends, due to I assume, higher entry speeds and my lack of driving skill ! Yet to try this out but at 100 -150 I figured a reasonable upgrade. Have it set to stiffest setting and not noticed any negative side on road driving

In summary, suspension - best 1200 I have spent on car

I was at Silverstone on Monday with well worn Ao48s. I did not need different suspension as much as I needed paddle. It rained buckets and there was standing water everywhere. I could get round the corners but not slow down without aquaplaning. Someone had a v6 s exige there and was tanking it round, hats off to them. A red s2 was backed into the pit wall with some over eager exit power and a caterham knocked a corner off.

I have never driven so slowly but I can confirm that a048s are rubbish at driving though rivers.

Shame my wet tyres were safe in my garage. I blame the bbc weather forecast.

Silverstone in the wet is really good fun, it has a wet line. I did it on 888’s and passed everything all day. If you know the line you’re rocking…maybe you’ll spin once or twice but soften up the car and its a hoot!

I am sure I could have gone faster but I have a real phobia about Lotii in the wet. It got me out of that. It was really wet and a couple of Porsche drivers did not even leave the garage. The breifing put people off, 61 spins and about 10% of the cars pranged the day before. Corners were ok, it was the slowing down that was tricky.

I was happy and got 100 miles in (slow ones). Some could go fast with either the skill or the car for the job, I had neither.

If you are there again ask for JP, he usually work’s out of Silverstone and may be on hand as an instructor, he’s a good egg the best IMO. There myself on Monday if it pours down will try and get some footage, lol failing that Pete may have some pirate stuff he never got round to sending me…Aussie tosser
