Just got back from Donnington with my S1. It was a great evening apart from one frightening moment when the brakes went soft approaching Redgate. Why did this happen? let the car cool down and they worked well enough to get home, in fact they felt pretty normal. What’s the problem? They are standard S1 brakes.

Sounds like you answered your own question there matey!
Most of us have done the following :
Braided Hoses
Decent Disks
Decent Pads
In the main the standard calipers are up to the job. If you do a search I’m sure you’ll find lots of info. I run Alcon rotors and PF pads and it works well for me.
Firstly, for track, you need braided hoses (approx 70 plus fitting)& decent fluid (many on here use Castrol SRF, but @ 40 a litre others think it’s over the top).
After that, performance brake pads eg Pagid RS42 (or RS14)/SBS/Performance Friction/Mintex.These will set you back between 150 & 250 a set.
Replace/upgrade the disks/rotors when they’re worn out.
Take a look at http://www.eliseparts.com/shop/index.php
What he said,…his answer was better than mine…it had indicative prices an’ everything
All said is correct. You have overheated the discs and in doing so one or two things happen
The pad material emmits gasses which reduce friction, drilled or grooved discs dissipate the gasses.
The fluid has boiled, resulting in tiny air bubbles whichsquash
under pedal pressure so you can`t push the pads onto the discs nooo matter how hard you press the pedal. I think.
Also make absolute sure that you have bled the circuits correct and that ALL air is out - especially the rear.
Maeke sure that you didnt put the handbrake on after any serious lapping
Last check your pads - if they have 3mm or less material left on them they are ( in my opinion ) scrap as they just cant get rid of the heat - so pistons get hotter and fluid gets hotter etc etc

Happened to me at Donnington years ago. I took said action and am very happy, haven’t had an issue since.

Many thanks for the advice.
Can anyone recomend a good garage? I live near to Lichfield, Staffs.
Thanks for all your help. It’s booked in for Pagid pads, braided hoses and Castrol SRF fluid.

Try telling that to the big lad @ Brunty my friend !!!
Still juckling about your explantion to the driver of the Skyline who you shot past

I’m sure they will anyway but ask them to check the discs for any hairline cracks especially around the drilled holes. Too much temperature in mine on two occasions caused the same damage until they were replaced with alternative ones.
