I’ve tried to do a search for this topic but can’t seem to find anything. Anyone got one fitted to their car? what are they like? I’m considering one as an anti-theft device.
Is fitting a DIY job?
Thanks
Dave

I’ve got a MOMO fitted. Definitely makes the car harder to steal and I like the feel better than the OEM wheel, it’s also a little smaller.
DIY? Definitely possible but I’m a numpty so got a dealer to fit it.
Hope that helps…
Yep, d-i-y, & suggest you go for either an OMP or Sparco 300mm suede wheel
i’ve had 3 MOMOs - all fantastic and well worth it… cant get a more effective (and visible) theft deterrent
be warned i did hear of a case of the wheel itself being stolen, which i thought was particularly ironic… so make sure you always remove it!

Mine only comes off after turning a key in a lock, although it will go on again by just clicking it on.
I have also been thinking to buy a “snap on”. Does anyone use the extra adapter to move the steering wheel further back… Since I have problems with my knees hiting the “dash” under the steering-wheel while “heel and toe”, It might get solved if I can sit further back in the seat.
Which momo wheels would you guys recommend?
Just whilst on the subject bear in mind this thread web page
I like this one myself - put a Lotus logo over the Spaco logo; two horn buttons or use for intercom ptt; and a cut out at the bottom of the rim to make it easier getting in and out

I use a Sparco…

HI Dave,
Just went down the same line as you are now!
Got myself a ‘snap off’ kit from Elise Parts, together with a Sparco suede wheel… 330mm, this is about 10mm more than the standard Nardi wheel, but has a flat base. Very nice, though for some the 300mm may be better. Had that size in a Momo on my Elise, but made for slighly higher steering loads.
Fitting was DIY… took about 2 hours with some head scratching delays!!! Just remember NOT to take the nut off the wheel spline hub until you have broken the ‘seal’ with the puller… it will end up on your chest at high speed if you do! (No airbag either!!!)
Results are great… and taking the wheel off is just the best security system!
Hope this is useful!
Happy Christmas,
Pete.
Swapped my wheel 3 weeks ago. I didn’t use a detachable boss but the whole procedure took 15 minutes. You just under the big nut in the middle a couple of turns and HEAVE and wait for the clunk. Then it comes off dead easy. I think to note is that the boss of the stock wheel isn’t in the centre whereas after market ones are so they sit about an inch lower.
Ive got a brand new official Lotus Motorsport steering wheel that could be available if any one fancies one.
Is it leather or alcantara…?
Might be interested in a look see…
Hi Ian,
Its is a beautiful grippy black alcantara.
Pop over sometime for a coffee and you can have a look at it!
J.
Julian ill give you a shout at the weekend…
Is it momo, sparco etc?
Ian
Ok, yes its a Momo.
Russell Gibbons at Lotus Motorsport supplies them! His current stock, and the stealers, are leather clad, the alcantara model was a special order wheel?
Very interested…
(Im sure the missus wont mind if I get her a new steering wheel for my exige for christmas…ill even let her hold it when its not attached to the car )

I can even wrap it up for her and put a bow around the packaging!
Lets face it, as you said, the more often youre out in the Exige the more SHE can drive your other car!!!
Not sure if this wheel is specifically for an S1, might there be any reason why it wont fit an S2?
