Smelly clutch

Merry Xmas all
Just wondering what happens when you guys try for a quick hi revs get away from standing start. My exige returns that lovely burning smell as the clutch appears to stay in even though the peddle is up. The garage says it is quite common for clutches to slip on the exige if you try for ‘burnout’ style get away. Look forward to replies of people saying your clutch is knackered on 12000 miles.

It doesn’t really do those kind of ‘Getaways’. It’s far happier teaching much more expensive machiney lessons on the track once it’s on the move.

Do a search on the site. There’s quite a few threads like this (eg. this one ).

This is quite common … - there are quite a few threads about it …

Usual “fix” is the AP clutch upgrade … see most Elise suppliers upgrade sections - but that still suffers a little from the same situation - the only other way is a ceramatalic “paddle” clutch but you will destroy that in normal driving most likely …

Keep practising

Thanks for the answer guys, I feel a lot better now.
This site is fantastic for building your confidence when you think all is lost !!

Personally I think (and I’m sure it’s more than just the festive spirit) that it adds a lot to the whole ownership experience.

Welcome to the club!

I just give it 4000 and drop the clutch - works best in sprints - you need to vary the revs according to grip, mind…

You don’t get slip that way - so no smells…
