small cracks on AP discs

fellas

my mechanic called me this morning and told me my front discs have cracks around the holes, a classic for drilled discs.
i knew about these cracks, my idea was to finish the discs this season and change them for grooved discs
i guess he’s afraid because one of his customers broke his dics at a TD after he noticed the cracks

you can notice the cracks on these (blurry) pics

it doesn’t look that bad IMO but i’d like your advice
do i need to change my discs now?
ot it can wait?

i plan 2 to 3 more TD this season and i ain’t a driving god

cheers

Difficult to tell from the photos but they look well past their sell by date anyhow … did you also check their thickness ?

Personally I would replace them, not worth it over a few hundred pounds…

Don’t do a TD, in fact don’t do very much, change them now.
A small crack on mine expanded very quickly.
I’m sure Dave will chirp in soon…(got my floaters in stock yet or are you this week mostly doing carbon?)

change it asap!!!

what’s the reason for these cracks? Clogged holes due to brake dust?

More a question of whats the reason for the holes, used to be to stop pad glazing but that went with asbestos. Most stuff is slotted now, but some even question the needs for the slots.

The cast disks are weakened by the holes and it’s common for them to crack around and between the holes.

Happened to a couple of sets of the standard discs from Lotus on mine.

Swapped for aftermarket grooved ones and never had any further problems.

Eliseparts grooved discs also serve as wear indicators - when the groove disappears it’s time to change the disc - very easy to see without having to mess about measuring disc thickness!

Floaters Hmmmmm…
The fully floating bells are almost ready apparently, being lazer etched this week.
Will be in touch when they are ready.

Those drilled discs from AP that lotus use are more expensive than the grooved AP discs (about 40.00 a pair more!!)
Grooved AP replacement discs available from stock here

all right fellas

just ordered the grooved AP discs from dave

I think I should change mine…

God yes, they are ruined :frowning:

Don’t delay

thats some serious cracks…change it asap!!

what’s the best place to get them ?
I guess the AP’s are the n1 choice, but are there any decent alternatives ?

on seriouslylotus I found 308mm AP rotors, but also those Alcon rotors ? Anyone any recommendations ? Or those from eliseparts ?

an old cd would be better than what you have at the moment!!
