I have been running Yoko 005 slicks this season and find them ok but have nothing to compare them with.
What other slick options exist for Exige rims and has anyone done a back to back comparison on performance?
Thanks

Used to run the same as you but stopped after trackday company banned slicks on cars without full cages , not sure if that will have an effect on the numbers of other people that have tinkered with slicks?
Hi Stephen,
I am running on Dunlops (medium compound) and find they are great when new but lose performance quickly. I was planning on trying the Yokohama ones for comparison myself. How do you find they sustain grip levels with repeated heat cycles? Do they drop off quickly?
Hi,
I’ve been on Yoko 048 up until now (032 before that, Dunlop 98 and 01 before them) as I have been racing in series that required listed tyres. I’ve only gone onto slicks now as the BRSCC championship I am doing (LMA) allows it.
Compared to 048 medium-hard, I was expecting a significant increase in grip but I haven’t really had my socks knocked off. Having said that, I did some long sessions around a warm Snetterton yesterday and I was impressed that the 005s didn’t seem to be going off at all on long runs - in fact they were better by the end of the day after having done by then 10 or so cycles. I don’t think you’d have a problem doing a full 45minutes to an hour on the 005s. All the more annoying that I cut the sidewall on one tyre driving off the trailer last night so need to replace the rears - probably not even half worn tyres (damn, damn, damn)!!
Thinking back to the moulded slicks, I found that the Dunlop moulded 01s were much better on long runs than the 98s, and heaps better than the Yoko 032s in longer races. The 048s also get very hot, but have been good for about 20 minutes at a time provided you start the pressures really low. I don’t know if the same is true for the slicks. I decided to stick with Yoko for the slicks as they have done the development work with Lotus and of course the 005s are the same dimensions as the 006 wets (awesome wet tyre) which makes set up easier.
I am wondering whether to try Dunlop for the next set of wets and drys as that would give me the option of doing Britcar as well, but the drys are significantly smaller than the Yokos and that means farting around with ride heights and wings every time I change from wet to dry tyres.
I’d be interested in hearing of other people’s experiences.
Do you get Hankook or Hoosier over there?
I know there’s some people here running Hoosiers but don’t think anyone has stepped up to try the Hankooks yet. Here’s a table of the sizes that I put together a while back:
I may give them a try but need to budget a set of wheels into the picture first.
