Slick Tyre fitment

Hi All

I am thinking of fitting slicks to my Exige S for trackdays
next year. I am aware of the Yokohama A0005 slicks but cannot find any data on which rims/wheels these can be fitted to other than the 240r Lotus Sport Wheel.
I have seen the wheel fitment guide from SELOC but I am still unsure. I currently have the Lotus Lightweight wheels & would like to use these. Any comments ?

I am also going to purchase a second set of wheels & tyres for road/wet track day use. Eagle F1’s keep getting mentioned as a good option. Again any comments ?
I am looking at the Team Dynamics wheels from Hangar 111 as my second rim option. Guess what - any comments.

Thanks

Chris

I wouldn’t put slicks on until I’d dry sumped the engine. The oil handling on the Toyota engine is only tested to 1G lateral acceleration (i.e. Corolla grip) and the std Exige (and Elise) far exceed those numbers. There are some mods you can do such as the Moroso sump and an accusump but I cant say I really trust these - a Pace dry sump is the best bet esp when a new engine is 7000 plus fitting!

As far as slicks go you should go and see a Lotus specialist such as Plans. The rear suspension especially wont be up to the forces caused by slicks and will need beefing up.

I’ve never tried slicks on an Exige but on a Caterham they are plain silly. My mate fitted some and he said it was a huge increase compared to the old Avon CR500s.

When buying wheels for an Exige I’d look hard for the lightest ones available to keep the unsprung weight down and retain some ride quality. Use your original wheels for the road and beefier aftermarket jobbies for the track.

I ran slicks on an S1 for a while, good fun but huge additional forces through the car - ended up shearing a rear toelink.

I know some trackday companies won’t let you run them unless you havea full roll cage fitted so check first if you don’t have one.

Thanks for the advice - I think I will contact Plans in the new year. Looks like its going to get expensive.

Any ideas which ones ?

I predominantly use Easytrack & Trackdays

Thanks

I dont see the point for track days

plus it means you cannot drive to the track.

Agreed.

On the Caterham you could buy part worn F3 tyres for pennies so it sort of made sense. Exige sized slicks will be mega bucks.

They may be now but going back a few years to the Elise Sports single make race series, there were plenty of part worn ones about.

Chris - my post might have been incorrect - sorry - Bookatrack have the policy - or at least I thought they did - cannot find the reference on their website right now!

It would be as well to check this the others though…
