The dedicated F1 channel launches on Sky in March.Martin Brundle say’s in an interview in Motor Sport, this month, that it will be more for the ‘purist’ than the BBC’s coverage of the past , ( and less like Top Gear) which won’t be bad !!and they are going to run all sorts of team ‘insights’ during the week, and they are committing more cameras and crews than the BBC ever did.
I think it will be excellent , pity that DC isn’t going to go with Brundle , who more than hints that the BBC mishandled the announcement they were cutting back on coverage, and getting the commentators to not even travel to some if the circuits , and work off a monitor feed in a UK based studio…half a job!!! IMHO
I’m sure you are right and that the coverage will be excellent.
Truth is though, that the BBC sold out to Sky to prevent Channel 4 from taking it on…
NO !! They absolutely didn’t , they couldn’t ( or didn’t want to ) commit the budget required to continue to cover F1 at the proper level , in times when the Goverment were cutting ( or not increasing the TV licence fee) budget, due to the profligate spending of the BBC in other area, freebies, entertaining , taxis, AND senior staff pay packages.
The BBC will send 30 people to cover a story , when other stations send 2, a camera man plus one…
Don’t get me started on BBC spending , and it’s left wing News coverage
I’m guessing no one here realy knows the whole truth behind what went on. Only Bernie, the Murdocks and who evers in charge at the BBC, and they’re not talking.
At the end of the day, its business. If you can’t afford to buy something, you can’t have it. It doesn’t matter that it might be overpriced, over valued, one guy owns it and he’s set that price that others are willing to pick up the bill.
Not wishing to start the whole debate again but I was party to some stuff that convinced me the this season’s coverage will be mega
A colleague with me said “wow that makes me want to watch F1” and he has absolutely no interest whatsoever in cars/motorsport,…he’s French and the only car he ever owned was an original Twingo!
We also get some interesting cars parked up around the campus these days

The BBC did a deal with Sky to save money and prevent C4 from getting it.
THE BBC DIDN’T DO DEAL WITH SKY , F1 DID A DEAL WITH SKY, and IF C4 did bid , they didn’t offer enough, and why should they , are small, with not sufficient budget!!
