I have his signature from a book signing and Sir Jackie Stewart.
Sir Stirling nearly mowed me down in his Merc W196 in the paddock at Goodwood one year…does that count? At the time I did think, if you’re gonna get run over,…then by Stirling in a W196 would have a certain kudos
Not me ,but …
Probably my best pal Mark Leavesley (flying related)
Senna signing a jacket and handing it over as a present for teaching him to fly model helicopters …
After a dinner with Berger too …
Jacket sadly sold ,as Mark fell on hard times …ebayed it !
Still one of my best pals …Mark that is not Senna !
Everytime I visit tho , I’m drawn to the family group photo,s …
My first helmet from formula days has been slowly collecting sigs:
Jackie Stewart
Carol Shelby
Phil Hill
Stirling Moss
Johnny Herbert
Mick Doohan
Mark Webber
Eddie Irvine
and a whole host of others which I embarrassingly can’t remember at this moment
I’m not interested in autographs and never understand these shops full of autographed paraphernalia. I’m more interested normally in the item that has been signed! It just started to happen and I decided it would be nice to fill it up and give it to a charity auction at some point.
Sits in it’s bag in the cupboard most days of the year.
Don’t worry Mike, no one will think you’re bragging/showing off. It would be great if you would share some of your stories/experiences, so please go for it [/quote]
I wasn’t worried about the bragging rights, more about being shown up as a sad git who collects silly things - and I do have some interesting memorabilia, particularly Lotus stuff if I can get hold of it. I don’t collect autographs as such (it always seems a bit gauche to ask if you want my opinion) but I have been known to buy and sell a bit of motor sports memorabilia.
I’ve met/had a drink with/had dinner with many luminaries and I treasure those moments. I shalln’t list names but if I did it would include many world champions and some great and famous engineers (e.g. in the last few minutes I’ve just had a former head of the Rootes Competition Department drinking coffee in my office). Tonight I am a guest at the Motor Sport Hall of Fame and no doubt I’ll meet a few more… I’m a very lucky motor sport fan who happens to make a living out of it as well.
I nearly got run over in the goodwood paddock by Jenson Button when he brought his F1 renault back down from the top of the hill to the Renault feature display infront of the house.
Shortly afterwards the Renault guys decided to celebrate something and Jensen opened a bottle of champagne. This was shared with the nearby crowd and I got to finish it.
At that moment it was just an empty champagne bottle, not really of any significance, so I thought nothing of giving it (the champagne bottle!) to the lady next to me who had asked nicely.
The very same bottle was then passed around a cluster of drivers with a marker pen and ended up signed by JB, Rene Arnoux and 2 or 3 other French/Renault legends.
I missed out on a good bit of memorabilia for dads collection that day. All I got was a photo.

Tut, tut, the yoof of today!
Hardly ‘yoof’ anymore! I begin with a 3 now.
