Anyone know of a good one or done one ? i have been looking at Donny and Silverstone .
I did the Silverstone one a few years ago - car was a bit crap and had to use a small circuit but good fun all the same
Would recommend Palmersport at Bedford, best I’ve done.
Also enjoyed Knockhill, where they had bike engined cars.
Did Brand’s years and years ago and it wasn’t great. Not much track time and silly low rev limit. Probably all changed now.
Experience days are not training.
If you want feel a rush and say you’ve done it, then an experience day is indeed a solution. Most of those available though imo offer disappointingly low track time, rev limits and chance to get familiar.
If its training or to see if single seaters are really for you then I’d suggest a 4-5 day course that often culminates with your race license test. These genuinely ramp up your skills more intensely than any other training pound for pound, give you more than enough time to know if you enjoy single seaters, the resulting physical soreness extends the experience for several days further , and they are a blast.
I did the Jim Russell school in FVJ and FVL 14 years ago and it remains the best of all the various schools/trainings I’ve done. Was at Donington back then and 5 1/2 days.
1 or 2 day courses are generally less value when you consider lunches, start & end times, invariable delays for red flags etc.
Another recommendation for Palmersport. Loads of track time and trainers telling you to go faster all of the time, certainly no rev limits and the cars are all in great condition.
I did a single seater day at Brands Hatch ages ago and it was very disappointing, as people have said, very little track time and I think 4,000rpm was the limit.
Another vote for Palmersport for a day out, but the training is not focused enough for what you seem to be asking for, again I did Brands a long time ago and looking back at it now it was pants
Another vote for the Palmersport day - I did it a few years ago. It is aimed really at Corporate entertaining and more about having fun than actual driver training. Best if you can go with a group of enthusiasts.
Downside is its not cheap! Great day out though!
Yeah proper training is what I’m after from numpty novice with zero track time to getting a license in the shortest time , I was looking at the experience days for a taste of driving one with some sort of training but they sound a bit pants now .
Plan is to get an 80s classic FF2000 car later if im told im up to it and do a season or two to get the hang of slicks and wings the same way my dad did .
All pie in the sky though untill I get to drive one with some of training / assessment and just to see if I like it or if im any good .
Don’t pi$$ about, borrow one of your dad’s Williams - he won’t mind will he!
Lol , Pesky , maybe you could be my 1-1 Mr Miyagi of the track world !
More like Mr Magoo, if we’re being honest!

Or Mr Whippy… with a flake in!!
mmm… tasty flake!
You don’t need to be a track wizard to get a race licence. You simply need to be able to drive sensibly fast and know the racing rules, flags etc. In fact the MSA always state that the issue of a track licence is not proof of competence, merely that a certain standard of driving and knowledge of the regulations was demonstrated during the test. Get the Go Racing pack from the MSA and book your ARDS test day, swot up on the regs and all will be fine…unless you really are a terrible driver of course.
Getting straight into a single seater may not be the best approach…
Thanks for the info , ordered the MSA pack today

You just need to swat up for the exam, not “taxing” but a memory for detail required
Can echo the single seater experience at Brands Hatch, although it was a good few years ago - back then it was called the Nigel Mansell Experience. If it hadn’t of ben a freebie then i would have been very disappointed.
I know that if you have done a Palmersport day then there is an option to go back and just do some additional time in the single seater. I don’t think they advertise it widely, but got to find out about it when talking to one of the instructors after the event.
Thanks , the MSA pack came yesterday , I’m now looking at driver training in a road type car just to get the confidence to get the test done .
Been looking at FF2000s still , Mmmmm : http://www.racecarsdirect.com/listing/38113/van_diemen_rf82_ff2000_immaculate_complete_ready_to_race.html
