Simon Erland - Australin rumour

Not wishing to start another slanging match, but I thought as I obviously speak to Simon quite often, I would at least give his side of the story.

The Facts according to Simon.

  1. The Australian guy (who will remain nameless, but he may post on here later) has paid a deposit on an engine.

  2. It was nowhere near 10K UK

  3. The guy in question is not upset, unhappy, pissed off or anything with Simon.

  4. Simon is in regular contact with the guy (as he is with all of us) and everyone knows the state of play and everyone is perfectly happy with the situation

  5. Simon is the first to admit that everything is taking longer than expected, 3rd party suppliers have been the main issue, along with development and subsequent redesign of certain areas.

  6. Simon Scuffham did not speak to the person in question. He spoke to a 3rd party and must have interpreted what he was told incorrectly.

I will say again, I have not posted this to start a war, just to give the other side of the story, so to speak.

Firstly what I’m about to say isn’t directed at you Sean but hopefully Simon might read this post…

Never give deadlines based on third party half-hearted promises, you will always be let down by a certain number of them. This is the nature of the beast and an unfortunate fact of life. This is why some of the larger engine conversion specialists carry an extraordinary amount of stock.

Also, I thought that if the design was right to start with there was no need for redesign The whole point of the wonderful KingKongKonversions??? Surely it seems like the god-like Mr Erland is venturing down the same research and development track that all us mere amateurs have been incorrectly treading all these years. Strange.

No problem Chris, I like you, am simply the messanger here.

The part in question of my “redesign” statement, wasn’t Simon’s fault. He had a 3rd party design a certain component, but upon seeing the result, decided he wasn’t happy with it and redesigned it himself to his own spec.

I don’t want to go in to details as it isn’t my business to do so.

The whole reason for me putting this post up was simply for fairness, so that all readers can have both sides of the story and then make up there own minds.

I have tried to keep out of the various Simon Erland war posts. lol. but I do like to see a certain amount of fair play.

Sean…

but I do like to see a certain amount of fair play.

Couple of years of motorsport… You will soon learn

Do you mean to say that if I shout “excuse me” to someone I am trying to overtake, they are not going to simply move over and let me past???

I blooming well hope not, or I’m not coming to watch!

Slightly puzzled as to why Simon hasn’t posted this information himself…

Dave

Not puzzled at all, he would just be slagged, it’s a never ending argument.

It’s sad that his first posts started being very polite BB but his attitude changed when confronted with all the slagging.

Sad turn of things, but hey, Merry Christmas!

Lets remind ourselves of Erland’s first post:

So much hysterical nonsense about this amazing engine. There are problems with tuned K’s particularly the VHPD which is a non-Rover engine so poor that it should never have gone into any car and is utterly repudiated by the Rover design engineers. See EVO magazine in the coming months! Anybody wanting to know the full story is welcome to email me on > [email protected] > or anybody wanting help with their K. A 220 bhp 160 lbft engine weighing 30-40 kilos less than any other 4-cylinder engine is easy and if done properly is utterly bulletproof too. Easy and will run rings around any Honda or Toyota!!!

Certainly polite. You have got to admire the way he goes straight for the unsubstantiated claims and hyperbole though.

Uldis,

If he kept his posts to the facts then they might be better received.

I note that he hasn’t quite got there yet on the ‘easy’ 220BHP-160lb/ft claim, at least on published figures.

Dave

I think I’m from another planet then.

I’ve got 218 and 158, is it that far off?

Anyway, let’s this not be another discussion.

Hope you all have an excellent Christmas (and that Santa brings you all the toys you wished for)

Dave, you’re being too kind. The original quote was: *

Given an appropriate standard of build the K will be bombproof as a naturally aspirated engine ,240bhp absolutely no problem.

He was making far more than 220 AGES ago: **

As a point of interest, I have built four engines for friends all of which have been properly toleranced and totally faultless over 18 months minimum on the track ,running as much as 227 bhp.

Uldis,
Did you get the said numbers on the Emerald rolling road, unadjusted? If not, then it’s not comparable.

In the hope to put this subject to rest I have copied Angelo’s (the Australian guy in question) reply on SELOC below.

what an interesting thread! for those who don’t know me, (and that would be most of you, given this is my first post on SELOC) i believe I AM the Australain Client who allegedly handed over 10000GBP for an Erland engine. As far as I know, I am the only one here to have ordered an engine from him, so i assume Randy refers to me. so, let’s set the record straight:

I have ordered a 2.0L K series engine form Simon Erland early in the year.
Bar a small deposit, NO MONEY has exchanged hands
Simon has issued me with itemised accounts for parts etc and stayed in constant communication with me regarding the progress (albeit slow) of the build of this engine. Given that it is a completely bespoke item, I don’t see an issue with delays, given that most internal parts are completely redesigned and refabricated.
has anyone not heard of the incredible Judd 2.0L K, putting out in excess of 280bhp, even with BTCC restrictions in place and limited development time and budget? did this engine not last a whole series AND win? the fact is a reliable race-going 2.0L K ALREADY exists, and JUDD took on the project essentially to prove that it COULD be done, much the same as Simon’s agenda.

I was half way down the Honda route before local racing authorities pulled the plug because of eligibility issues. i also have an inate dislike of [Censored] ising the car too much from original specification. I have spoken to both Scuffham and Erland in the past and have found both of them to be agreeable and knowledgeable in their respective fields, HOWEVER, i did NOT run across Scuffham whilst he was here and resent my being dragged into this girly bitchfight.

Hope this clears everything up for everyone. when i DO get my engine I will happily post my thoughts on it and look forward to seeing how it does stack up against Honda’d cars. until then, all this is just rhetoric and such bull [Censored] !

Angelo

Thanks Sean,

This saves us Seloc-allergic a trip over there.

Randy, I see your point.

Uldis,
Did you get the said numbers on the Emerald rolling road, unadjusted? If not, then it’s not comparable.

As posted in the past, I made a baseline map at Emeralds, then next day another one at Dastek’s here in Aberdeen (which reads slightly less).
Then I had a comparison point and always convert to Emerald-comparable values.

It’d be interesting to do another one at Emeralds, but we’ll see, it’s very far.

Sean,

you missed on the bit at the end…

ps. over a year ago I paid Randy for his old K series and ECU/ancillaries. Despite hounding for a long period of time, i have yet to receive my ECU and Randy just stopped replying to me when I kept asking for it. Maybe this thread should be re-named Randy IS Joe McCarthy!

So funny how things can turn around.

I didn’t post the bit at the end as I didn’t feel it was relevant to this thread. Whatever business Randy has with Angelo is bewteen them. I didn’t want to be seen to be stiring the [censored].

I’ve been offline for a day and see what happens! thank to sean for copying my post, it saved me a lot of trouble. I really don’t need to add much other than i was misrepresented by both Randy and Simon Scuffham on SELOC with regards to this Erland engine issue. i have deliberately steered clear of any debates on this site and SELOC as I believe that it is better to wait and see what happens rather than bandying about bull*hit rhetoric and hearsay. Furthermore, any commercial relationship i have with Simon Erland, or anyone else for that matter is private and not subject to the approval or scrutiny of others.

i resent (justifiably i think) that i have been dragged into this by both Randy and Simon Scuffham with baseless accusations and the subsequent compromisation of my commercial relationship with Simon Erland a a result. regardless of what many may think of him, he has conducted himself professionally and ethically in his dealings with me and would really prefer if others kept out of it. when my engine DOES arrive, I’ll be happy to post on it, but until then, I’d like the parties concerned to mind their own business and think about what fabrications they post in reference to my alleged grievances…lest their comments come back to bite them on the bum!
