Silverstone Dec 10th Passenger rides Exige Turbo

O my god, what a car.

That was bloody quick.

I was invited to Silverstone today by Allan at Weltmeister Performance Specialists to have a ride in the ForcedFed Turbo System S2 Exige, which was driven by the racing driver Phil Bennett.

Ok, I know Allens driving is a tad better than mine. Ok miles better than mine. But I have passenger before in the Exige with fast drivers and racing drivers so I know how to gauge if a car is quick. But this car just pulled and pulled and pulled. The power was amazing. The only car quicker than us on the track while I was out in the car was the Moisler racecar. There were some very fast cars there as well today.

The ForcedFed Turbo System just seemed to pull so effortlessly from so low down the rev range that I would be surprised if a 240r would match it. Because the Supercharger still works on the higher end of the rev range.

There were a few little teething problems because it was so cold that when the car was up to temp and the thermostat opened up it over cooled the car and brought the max revs down again. But once that was over the car was just simply truly awesome.

A number of other Exige owners from SELOC & Exiges.com was also there as well. Everyone seemed to be as equaily impressed as me. Even the crazy Rusain, Val (Nice chap) who arrived in a taxi and left the meter running for a couple of hours while he waited for a chance to go out in the car.

Having looked at the cost to change from my current Exige to an Exige S, or change to a Europa S and get it put right. The ForcedFed Turbo System seem like the best option not only from a value for money perspective, but also from a performance perspective without losing the drivability of the car on the road.

…which was driven by the racing driver Allan Bennett.

Yeah right.

Bet Phil is impressed

No… not this one!

Sorry… Corrected to Phil… Thanks for pointing it out…

Sounds very impressive. Just one thing - looking through the components list for the kit it mentions ‘Proprietary Computer System (Stage 2 Only)’ . So, does it include a completely new ecu?

Mark

No, its got a piggyback ECU system which modifies the fuel and spark when the boost comes in. They can be a PITA to set up but once its done you should be able to forget about it. A new ECU for an Exige is about 2000 (I think the Pectel SQ6 is the only thing which would run it out of the box at the moment).

Ahh, I see. So, presumably the cam change over is at the same point, although I guess that is much less of an issue with the Turbo pumping up the mid range torque??

Mark

Yeah, I think the torque curve’s pretty flat from 3500rpm upwards.

Thanks to Allan for making it happen and Phil for taking us out and showing how to drive it

I was VERY impressed with the performance and also with the look of the installation. If it proves to as reliable in the UK as it seems to be in the US, I can see it becoming a very popular option for n/a’d Toyota-engined Exiges & Elises.

I’ve already put my deposit where my mouth is - form an orderly queue behind

Cheers
Rob

Allan,
Many thanks for providing an exceptionally well engineered and simple upgrade for the n/a Toyota Exige owners.
The transformation in performance is absolutely staggering.
One can only feel that the Exige is now at a power level that it should have been originally designed and marketed at by Lotus in the first place, to give totally awe inspiring performance.
I will be having my turbo upgrade early next year and will also request a Moroso oil pan.
Phil Bennett’s driving skills were most impressive

Regards,

David.

I forgot to thank Allan in the little write up I did for sorting out the day and giving us the chance to see what the car can really do.

I will be along to see you in the early part of next year.

Jamie Jones

It was an absolute pleasure to provide the car & driver for a few fun laps for you guys.

See you all soon I hope

Allan

URGENT! Just logged on after trying to find contact details for Weltmeister after reading the review in Evo this month for the Turbo 280 - can anyone help! I can’t seem to log onto the site, not sure whether it’s just me.

Cheers.

his domain name expired about 4 weeks ago.

Not sure why its taken so long for his IT Support to get him back online :frowning:

just at the wrong time aswell, his WRC sites are also down.

The problem was apparently with the domain holder, but it’s back up now.

I picked mine up today and will be at Castle Combe on 3rd March with Lotus on Track. It is FAST!

Rob

Nice will be interested to see it some time soon.

I fitted the 680 battery btw, car starts much better and 11lbs lighter plus nothing to leak out

got my deposit down,cant wait!!
