Old age???

Deleted a fatuous remark made after midnight following consumption of too much sauce on a pub crawl.

Sad truth about lotus’s current state, all of those cars are old (MY11 spec) unsold vehicles that they have now pre registered.
There are not many people like Tim and lotus are going to have real problems convincing people to buy new cars when there are so many pre registered about at that sort of price, not many people can afford to loose 30k straight away in this climate and those who can mostly wont buy lotus.
Lotus are in a mess, the exige V6’s are not rolling out and the longer this goes on the more people will pull orders worrying about warranties etc.
A few years ago a lad I know had a quad bike tours business in Spain, he told me he was going to double the price of the tours as his theory was he would only need to do half the amount of work to make the same turnover and would increase profit as fuel and maintenance costs would fall… It took about a season for him to go out of business.
In short, the product is too expensive for what it is, I have no idea what the truth is behind the production cost of a car but my money says a V6 exige cannot cost that much more than a basic Elise to build. Are they selling 40k pre registered evoras at a loss? I doubt it.
I know you can be a busy fool but surely it makes sense to sell more cars at a lower margin than no cars at high margin?

Ho hum, can you tell I’m bored. Stephs at work and its a foot deep in snow out side. It’s either rattle away on here or talk to the cats and I think you can get arrested for the latter.

I wasn’t trying to upset Tim - he’s bought a truly fabulous car, which he intends to keep for many a year come.

As Boothy says, the Evora situation in the UK is a mess, but hopefully Far Eastern sales will be good?

As far as the V6 Exige goes, I believe it is now being produced, albeit with priority for non UK markets so far. I think it will sell well in the UK (200 - 300 units per annum?), although the market is rather restricted.

Personally, I’d rather have the V6 Exige or high end Evora (like Tim’s) than all but the GT3 spec Porkers etc.

Agreed.

Try again!!!

I was (unfortunately) not even aware of the S1 Exige way back in 2000… but I wonder what the situation with that looked like to some? I mean, they only made 601, it was a slow seller at 34k (more than twice the price of a S1 or S2 Elise with basically the same bits aside from the modded ‘K’ and some LSS!), Lotus then dropped the price and they still sat about for some time!

Was this really so different to today??? Thoughts?

My thoughts …
Exige S1… well sought after cos it’s light and quick
Exige s2 …second best to s1 … prices will bolster …
S3 …remains to be seen but I think the Exige has peaked …

Can’t possibly imagine an S3 being quicker than a well sorted S1 …

Indeedy

My car hasn’t even depreciated a single penny yet either, as i haven’t sold it, and as Pesky says, i won’t be selling it for a very long time :sunglasses:

The lack of the S3 Exige is only helping to keep up the price of the S2 2nd hand, to be honest I doubt they will drop any more of the coming years. All that has happened with S1 Elise and Exiges is the price has gone up, a couple of years ago you could pickup an S1 Elise for 5-6k now they are 8k
