A friend of mine bought a S1 Exige. The car is in need of new shocks. Te allway helpfull dealer suggested Nitrons, but also quoted 9 hours of labour for install, full geo, steering rack adjustment etc. ( hours sounds a bit steep. Or is this normal for a S1.
Also what ride height is recommended.Car will be used mainly for trackdays, but will also have to be able to get onto a cartrailer.
To be fair if they are doing a full GEO including the bump steer and fitting everything then 9 hours sounds about right. Doing the bump steer takes ages.

Excuse my ignorance …
What is the bump steer ?
I thought it was just the charachteristics of the car over undulations

It is … but you want the characetristics to be right, not throw you off the road

It is just what it sounds like. How the rear wheels turn when moving up and down. Bump-steer.
If you get it wrong you can get pretty nasty behavior. Like sudden oversteer when cornering hard. Get some really hard springs and you don’t have to worry about it

Unless the springs are solid blocks it will still have an effect.

So do you chaps running about with 500+ pound springs (700!!!) still have any compliance on the roads? Mine are only 450 and 400 and they seem quite supple and yet I am not getting much roll or dive on the track… Why go for even more???

PEte I wind my Nitrons down to about 12 clicks from hard to prevent my dentures/eyeballs/otherballs/falseleg/ear and wig vibrating loose during road trips.
BUT for many other events “The Harder the Better”
Mine has 550Fr 750Rr springs and yes it still has compliance, it’s actually not that bad as ride issues are generally down to damping not springs.
How much do you weigh Mark?
& how many teeth with fillings intact
pesky,
More than most
Tim,
It’s really not that bad. As I said it’s the damping that really affects the ride quality. I could easily set up a car with very soft springs that rides like a bitch and you would end up with no fillings.
