Servicing & MOT

Well it is time for a service (first in my tenure) and 1st MOT. Do I take it back to main dealer or go to an independant (I am in SWLondon so think Lakeside is almost as close as main dealer). I know the independant will be cheaper but I have also heard the general sentiment that the independants ‘care’ more??? Any thoughts of effect on resale (not that I am thinking of selling it).

Also need a new set of boots (currently on 48’s - well what’s left of 'em ). Will probably be about 75/25 road/track use. Stay with 48’s or try 39’s?? Do the independants supply/fit tyres (spose I could call them and ask??).

Appreciate some guidance…cheers

Hi Benj

Here are the votes / thoughts of the Bristol Jury…

Independents, I think…

We need to keep them in business, to keep standards up…

As for resale - who checks more than that a service has been done ?? Better to quote a specialist who anyone can see has a good reputation, methinks…

My vote is for the 048s - they are generally cheaper, offer adequate wet grip except in standing water, and are far better in the dry…

I think they last longer as well…

Cheers Mike that was what I was thinking. It would be good to strike up a rapport with a well-known independant as I feel some mods coming on this year - mine is pretty much stock right now. I think I will stick with 48’s - I was quite impressed at Llandow in the damp (tho’ I been caught out on the road when standing water is about - ‘fear the puddle’ ))

I will probably get on the phone to Lakeside in the morning…

Reminds me,…must sort out that NorthWeald thang…

Ben

Mike is 100% - I’m doing my own servicing and to be honest I prefer to know that its done correct (Mmmmm time is getting short eh Mike )and in that respect I would trust an independent more ( although you still need to be sure ) Lakeside seem to have a very good reputation though and I think stamp the book anyhow …

If you consider only a real enthusiast is gonna buy an Exige I cant see any harm in that at all.

MOT is another thing - you need a symathetic place

I’ve got the same decision to make at the end of the Ben. Not quite decided yet.

I can tell you that I’ve used Lakeside a couple of time (tyres & brakes) and like them.

That said, despite poor customer service in the past and higher prices I do believe Bell & Colvill really know what they’re doing.

Ben agree with Andy do my own servicing. Reckon I take much more care than your average Lotus dealer. Service record not too important to me - will be keeping the silva machine until something better comes along

Hmmm I would love to do my own servicing but don’t see myself as being equipped with the requisite skills/tools/space to do so…

I do class myself as an engineer, but broadcast engineering has more to with computers and meetings than spanners

Booked in for Friday @ Lakeside…Beatutiful. With the service, MOT and 48’s my wallet is gonna take some punishment.
