I have got a 04 NA s2 exige, its just coming up to 20,000 miles and going to give it a service (or go to garage) aint decided yet.
anyway, i want to put the best i can into it, and was wondering what you use?
Engine oil i was going to go for Silkolene PRO S 5W-40 Ester Syn Engine Oil
Also,at 20k lotus recommend a coolent, and gearbox oil change? is this really necessary? if so what coolent/gearbox oil do you use? (its standard)

Us Honda boyz use 5-40, favourites being Silkolene/Millers/Shell Helix.
No idea for the S2 trannies, but rumour has it they prefer this:

What grade does it say in the handbook? If it’s 5-40, you’ll have no probs with any of those mentioned above, but I’d change the oil after 3 or 4 trackdays or 6K road miles (or less if doing trackdays). I’m sure the oil will still be in good nick, but for the sake of �50 I’d rather be safe than sorry!

Just use a good quality brand of the grade specified in the owners handbook. Don’t forget if you have the twin coolers it takes over 7 litres to do an oil change. Mind you draining the oil out of the cooler rads will be a pain in the arse. I would just drain the sump and refil, with a new filter of course, so you will probably only need between 4 and 5 litres.
i have looked in the handbook to see what they say< but the reason i posted this up is to see what the majority of most people use! I havent got the twin oil coolers< so straight forward job! cheers!
My 05 Yota with 30k runs happily on Mobil 1 0w-40. According to the manual the oil coolers don’t need emptying/refilling, so I haven’t.
Also according to the manual the service intervals are 9k/annually for engine oil/filter, 27k for airfilter, 54k for transaxle/plugs and 4yrs for coolant. Where did you get the 20k figure from?

I use that silkolene stuff from opie oils. Partly because they always seem to have a special offer on, but mainly 'cos they deliver it to my house so i don’t have to go to halfords.
Even if you’ve only one oil cooler you’ll still have the returns all the way to the front and back, I can’t imagine one little cooler holding that much? I use anything from 4-6l to refill mine depending what mood it’s in.
Halfords, Mobil 1 0w 40, 5L… Sorted!

Well actually it didnt say 20k, it said every 4th service, which would be around 20k…to be honest i think its a waste of time, theres nothing wrong with the coolent in her, i have no cooling issues. Im just going to do the engine oil…
What about gerabox oil then guys? anyone changed theirs? will mine be ok on 20k?
