Selecting first

The selecting mech is cables and I’m impressed how good the shift is.

I used to own an 80’s Alfa Alfetta GTV and the shift on rods was beyond excreta. They went from the sweet Giulia front 'box to a transaxle and down the tubes the whole concept went.

Anyway I digress. The shift on my Exige is very sweet however selecting first to pull away is a bit notchy. Could the cables be a bit out of adjustment east/west? I would have thought it would have dropped in. I doubt the 1300rpm idle makes any difference here likewise dabbing 2nd makes no difference.

It’s not a big deal but I’m in interested in what other cars are like. Warmed up I think it’s a bit better but not a lot in it. Modern oils etc should mean on a modern car the shift is the same cold or warm.

(The Austin Maxi’s shift cables were so poor that a new car that left the showroom was unable to select gears by the time the punter in his new heap got home! but I concede it was the genesis of the concept if fatally flawed)

If the rest of your shifts (2nd/3rd/4th) are ok I’d be tempted to leave well alone rather than start adjusting things, but that’s just me. Are we sure Lotus didn’t use those Maxi cables from the Austin/Rover parts bin for the S1?

Hehe.

If you want to know why the mass produced British car industry went to turd then it’s all there in cable operated Maxi beauty!

Noted as to mine. I’ll leave well alone…
