SC 2ZZ in an S1!

Ok. Due to limitations with the current situation here in Malta, I am fairly sure it is not possible to swap for a Honda because of the increase in engine CC. The audi conversion could be done I guess but I dont have any knowledge of the engine.

With Regards to the toyota engine I can work something out and for me it is much easier to work with. I have done the first documented 2ZZ swap on spyderchat into an MR2 back in 2003 and it is still going strong.

I would be willing to get this engine in an S1 so I am looking for some pictures of the engine in an S2 and known differences between S1 and S2 subframes and mounting points, suspension pickups/wiring etc…

I dont have acess to an S2 so I am asking for help!

The S2 Yota rear subframe is totally different (and much heavier) dont use it.

I may be able to get some pics out of my workshop manual but I cant imagine they will be accurate. The S2 engine in the Exige / 111R relies heavily on the Canbus to send signals to the rest of the car (mainly instrument cluster and ABS) so you’d be better to forget all about that and use a standalone ECU.

Its not a very popular engine in terms of tuning in Europe and a Honda would be much stronger and give you options in terms of installation.

I’m sure a man of your means could rig something up?

I’ve just been looking at an Audi converted Elise today, its bloody tight! The wastegate actuator was rubbing on the luggage compartment wall! That with the throttle chopped off the inlet and turned so that it doesn’t foul the bulkhead.

Alternatively speak to Eliseparts about a Duratec conversion. It sounds like they may be about to launch a kit?

I could use a stand alone. Actually on the 2ZZ a stand alone is a must IMO. It truly transformes the engine. I haved a Power FC on the current engine in the MR-S revving to 8700rpm on the standard lump.

It would be great if you could send me some pics when you have time.

As for the Dura is it not a 2Liter? Still not good to insure

Not cheap though

Surely you need to offset the cost of being the first to undertake such a conversion against the extra cost of insurance on an already proven/available conversion though ??

The “Duratec” covers a whole range of engines to be honest. My inital post assumed a 2.0 or 2.3 version of the Mondeo engine but there is also a 1.8 version with 83.1/83.1 Bore/Stroke, these are all a Mazda developed unit. The 1.6 version is known as the Sigma engine. These are being fitted to Caterhams and Westfields nowadays. They are tunable but you’d want more torque they they can provide.

If that where the case I would do the Honda since I put that engine as THE best 4cyl currently in production. the problem is that here they will just not insure you no matter the premium.
