sad end

Some of you will know that my old exige was involved in a fire a few weeks ago, it wasn’t the lotus that caught fire but it spread from a nearby vehicle.
As it was parked on private ground shielded by trees to the nearby road it was burning for about an hour before the fire brigade were alerted, its a sad end for a car that held lots of happy memories for me, and also Antony the new owner who raced it in lot.

Engine and suspension (turbo technics 260)

This is all that remains it was stuck/melted to the trailer, absolutely nothing is salvageable, its been so hot the cylinder head was welded to the block

At least we know the Edwards diffusers can put up with some hammer

Sad indeed

Hope Anthony gets back into LOT - was always great entertainment to see him battling away (often with you Chris!), & he would be a big loss to the series

RIP - I remember seeing it for the first time on this site all them years ago when it had been freshly rebuilt in white and converted by the edwards. Was one of the final things that made me buy my Exige.

What number was it ?

This was not the white car, (both cars have had the same reg number L11TUS) it had always been black and a k-series, it was converted to a turbo technics last year from the remains of the infamous exige that went for a valet,

must have been jinxed

This is the white car as it is now

I hope that was insured. Is he going to replace this car and do the elise trophy still?

No not insured unfortunately Chris, to be honest i dont insure my race car either, i think i will be doing from now on though.

He will do at least a couple of rounds next year im sure

Gutted for him mate - at least the TMR’s weren’t on the car at the time too !

(pretty crappy silver lining on that cloud, but it’s something!)

That is really sad indeed.

Hope something good comes along for you now…

I hope that was insured.

No not insured unfortunately

Jeez, what a mess. I knew ally burned well but I’m stunned at that.

re the insurance - yours doesn’t need to be insured if the fire started elsewhere - you can claim off the owner / policy of the car that had the fire, or the people that caused it if this was not unexplained / spontaneous.

HTH, and good luck !

  • that is such a sorry sight, really gutted for Anthony. Hope he gets sorted with another one though…

Yep really sorry end - I recall first seeing that car and meeting Chris P at Bedford in 2004 I remember because me and Chris had a good blat round together and got a talking to for something or other…

Nah it was proabably because it was suggested that Chris was piloting a dangerous cut 'n shut deathtrap that he was trying to flog to an unsuspecting public…lol remember that

It was because we weren’t showing “respect” to some 340r drivers off seloc

Lol yep my first few posts were quite funny, even Uldis wanted to biff me
Looking back though im glad you lot made my car unsaleable otherwise i would have missed out on so many happy memories and laughs over the past few years
Also i would probably never got round to having a go at the racing
I cant imagine ever being without one now

seen the remains and was shocked coulnt believe thats all that remained.do ya remember doing a track day in it you came over and asked what modifications i had done to mine as ya couldnt keep up,“nothin” was my reply.from then on you have had a thing about POWERRRRR (as clarkson would say)

I hope that was insured.

Did look into that but they have wriggled out with a loophole in the policy wording, the car was on a trailer coupled to a 2006 landrover discovery (fire was caused by an electrical malfunction), although the insurance specificaly covered towing use they say just the trailer is covered
If it had been parked next to it but not coupled up to it it would have been covered.

Nah cant remember that, you must be thinking of someone else

Ah yes of course - it all comes flooding back. Seems bloody ages ago now,…all’s well that ends well though eh Chris
