Any idea where abouts it is? Think mine has failed/stuck shut as the car started boiling and reached 115 deg C after around 6/7 minutes driving last night. Is it possible to temporarily remove it altogether if I can’t get a replacement? Got Snetterton this weekend and coolant spraying everywhere is the last thing I need!
No defo not the thermostat there!
Its on the front of the engine at the right hand side under/behind the alternator. Hidden by the inlet manifold and starter.
Bugger to get too!!
Good luck
Ah excellent, maybe it was the water pump assy that I found (I didn’t hunt around too long as it was getting dark). Something to look forward to tonight!
Yes that is what I was looking at. Apparently the thermostat is underneath the manifold, so I can imagine it will be a right PITA to get at. Is there any easy/quick plan of attack to get it out??
I’m struggling to get a thermostat from anywhere and we are travelling to Snetterton for a meeting using the Exige first thing tomorrow morning - is it physically possible to remove the thermostat and still run the car, or is the thermostat crucial in sealing the cooling system?
I realise that this is not the ideal solution but I think its the only way we will be able to run, then we can get it fixed next week.
Cheers. Turns out the problem was a split coolant header tank; it had disintegrated round the outlet neck due to the plastic ageing. Wasn’t obvious at all until you poke at it and it starts to crumble away!
I had tried to get Proalloy to make some, but there were some difficult elements internally so they never did
Give them another push and they might make them, also these are only a toyota part so try 2nd hand?
