I was sitting in Math today, and it got me thinking, about ratios, power to weight to be precise. I realised the Exige isnt that fast, now I know that the Exige isnt all about straight-line speed, but I still think it makes interesting reading (but then again Im sad like that ).
Now I realise that all of these observations take no account of the Exiges sublime handling, or gearing, but I cant help but feel that the flagship Elise variant should be, well, a little quicker.
160 Elise S2 (Bell and Covill upgrade) mass: 726kg
= 223.92 bhp/ton
= 0-60 in 5 sec
= 0-100 in 13 sec
S2 Elise 190 sport mass: 710kg
=271.14 bhp/ton
=0-60 in 4.4 sec
=0-100 in 11 sec
But the Exige (which is surprisingly hefty in comparison)
Exige S2 mass: 875kg
=220.63 bhp/ton
=0-60 in 4.9 sec
=0-100 in 13 sec
Exige S1 mass: 780kg
=247.50 bhp/ton
=0-60 in 4.6 sec
=0-100 in 12 sec
So the S2 Exige looses 51 bhp/ton compared to the 190 sport, which is lots when you consider that the average disco2 only has about 60bhp/ton. And the S2 has damn near identical figures as a Bell and Covill 160 upgrade Elise. Although the S1, appears a little more promising the differences are fairly minimal, it probably just depends on how fast you can change gear .
All of which make 21k for a used 190 sport, and about 16k for a 160 upgrade Elise seem rather good value, well, on paper at least

(P.S wasn’t quite sure where to post this)
What would the figs be for a 785 Kgs S1 with 312 audi horses, and 303 Ft Lbs of torque then??
(O0 - 100 in around 8.5 secs)
Exige S2 mass: 875kg
=220.63 bhp/ton
=0-60 in 4.9 sec
=0-100 in 13 sec
Note sure where you got the weights from but you are pretty much spot on for the S2. I put mine on the scales at Donington and it came in at exactly 875kg, with a third of a tank of fuel.
Thats a touring pack car with air con, but with the forged alloys, and a few other mods.
Yeah seems about right, with 60 coming up in about 3.7 ?
Thats erquick
David
S1 weight with A/c and half tank (plus gauges and gubbins) on Speedlines, on the Donny scales = 790kgs
Lotus are claiming 4.1 to 60 for the 220S.

Those dev drivers are quick, but can they bend the laws of physics?

It’s those “fly by wire” throttles - there’s no one in the car when they do the 0-60 times, it’s all remote control - honest!
FWIW my trusty 111R could keep pace with unmodified (I think) K series Exiges on the shorter straights at donny, & even show signs of reelin’ em in on the long back staight, at over 100+ sort of speeds. It would look better on the stop watch than in reality though, subjectively speaking.
I lost out on pretty much every corner (as expected) especially with a combination of swampy standard suspension & A048’s
Fab day though Now, where did SWMBO hide that Ohlins brochure
Tim.
Yep, Tim, you were going very well, particularly in the afternoon
