lets just stop the converation short-The S1 is the only real exige and the S2 is just Slightly tarted up 111R. Air con i have but not through choice-It was just there. I much prefer to have the window open to be honnest.
The above excludes the 240R-240-Cup and Cup exige.

So if you had a Cup or a 240 AC would be ok?
More than Ok mate, Even though they are the s2 they are a fantastic bit of kit and Iif i could have afford one i would have had one
quite tempted by a porker GT3 with 22k on it for 44k - thoughts?
Yet again an excellent price…i’d LOVE a white one with the blue or red livery!
I think you’re thinking of the GT3 RS, which’d be more.
I rather like going past GT3s on track, proves the Exiges value. Depending on drivers, GT3s and Exiges can be pretty equally matched.
And before anybody gets the impression I’m talking about inappropriate trackday racing, I’m not. I’m talking ‘playing’, it’s a real joy being quite close to another driver you trust and are a similar pace to on track.

44k and 22,000 miles will most probably be buying you a 5yr old, mk1 GT3. Word of caution with these cars in that they never had any weather sealant placed on the floorpans and are prone to corrosion. The one to get if you can find it that is, would be 1 of the 140 official cs (club sport) cars with the rollcage, etc already in place. They still hold there money very well. The latter (04) MK2’s are going for 50k+ and the RS’s well on the wrong side of 60k.
As much as I would like to think an Exige is as fast a GT3, Im afaid that just isn’t the case. If you are toying with one on track, then the guy (or gal) who is driving it is probably a numpty and obviously doesn’t know how to… Perhaps with the execption of a few very tight and twisty tracks, the porker would walk the floor with the exige most of the time. It’s more on the top end than anywhere else it has it. For example, last year at Snetterton I was barely touching 125 down the back straight and really struggling to get anymore out of it, while my mate in his gt3 mk2 was touching 145+ and it was still pulling like an steam train, Same story at Donnington, Croft, Oulten Park etc. The only place to date I have had even half a chance of staying in touch with him was at Cadwell Park.
I would say that you and your mate have about the same driving ability.
When you get some more driving time under your belt, you’ll start to learn how to use the best traits of the Exige chassis to your advantage. Motor is not everything.
As a proof I was reading the results of the Tuner GP at Donington, same (control) driver (experienced) in all the timed runs:
Steve Butts Elise (DVA): 1:19.29
Honda Exige (Maidstone’s): 1:19.93
blah
blah
blah
Big Boys Toys Porsche GT3 (3.6L): 1:20.68
And yes, all of these are tuned, but this is the track where you say the differential is greater on power.
Don’t think so.
FWIW, I have never been overtaken by a Porsche GT3 on track. Some I’ve overtaken and some I’ve run even with. On those, the drivers were wearing their race suits so I assume they had some track experience.
Have you ever actually driven one, or for that matter even been a paassenger in one?? Would love to here what you would have to say if you had.
BTW Im not talking about heavily modified cars here, were talking both straight out the box, standard exige ‘v’ stadard GT3 and the GT3 will win every time, sorry but that is the way it is, theres just no comparison .

Nope, haven’t, only been in one on the road. Impressive engine.
BTW, the same bloke had also a 190 Exige, and he preferred the Exige on track (actually, he also had a Radical, and he prefered that)

In your experience. In mine, as I said, with all the GT3’s I’ve found on trackdays, I’ve never been overtaken by one. And the trackday regulars have mentioned similar experiences.

But hey! who cares!
See you at Donington
No worries mate, I know exactly where you are coming from, and yes, I will agree the fact that there will be certain corners and sections that the Lotus will out handle the Porker. Theres no denying that David can beat Goliath under certain circumstances, but when you look at the bigger picture you can clearly see what you are getting for the extra money (30k extra) you have to spend to buy one…
As I said in my first post, on the right track an Exige will match a GT3 if not beat it, just as the top gear times would suggest. But compare those times and conditions (same track, same driver) to somewhere like the Nurbs and you will find that the GT3 is well over 30+ seconds infront of the Exige. One extreme to the other wouldn’t you agree?
Steve, yes there all for sale mate, along with the ski’s, kart’s, diving kit and the wife, I’m keeping the cat.
Nah! The Top gear GT3 time was in the soaking wet! The Exige time was in the dry if I remember rightly. The GT3 on similar spec. tyres is significantly quicker (driver for driver of course)
Its true you don’t see too many driven that quickly on track but I think often the guy who brings a 70k GT3 to the track isn’t prepared to risk pushing too hard for fear of wrecking it!
I always read these type of figures with a pinch of salt, but heres goes anyway. All times apparently done by the same guy with dry track conditions on standard fit tyres

REMEMBER: Times are usually stock model from standing start & road tyres used.
Those Nrburgring figures are from the No.1 german petrolhead carmag, SportAuto
They also give the times for the small circuit (not the full F1 track) at Hockenheim. The is more emphasis on the twisties on this circuit (though in my old N/A Speedster (VX220) I would be all over 911 turbos, etc. till they pulled away again on the main straight).
They are close enough for the driver (degree of commitment/riskl) to be a significant factor that makes it fun at Hockenheim.
The stats for my old Speedster were around 1min 19sec, yet I have taken an Exige S1 and various 911 turbos (no GT2/3s though). I did swap cars with a GT3 996 andclimbing in from the Speedster, the GT3felt big, solid and more like driving my Range Rover 4.6 the Elise chassis is so much more wieldy.
Last year, in my Speedster, I even got past a gingerly driven Exige S2 with the Bemani 265bhp S/C. As I have one myself now, I am really looking forward to the 2006 season to pick off some Porsche
