As my Ohlins have to go back for a re-furb (they’re broken) I’m wondering what spring rates people on here use?
I really don’t even know what mine are as they were on the car when I bought it 5 years ago…
I presume it says the rate on the spring ?
I think they’re Lotus Sport sourced as that’s what paperwork I had with the car.
I’m not after upgrading them for the sake of it but just want to ensure I’m not too far off with what I’ve already got.
John, the standard units run 325lb front and 425 lb rear springs. I’m now running the updated cup spec which is 458lb front and 571lb rear, they need to be revalved for this but that can be done during the rebuild. They still feel very compliant on rough roads.
Cheers Wes , this seems to be inline with the specs on the paperwork I have.
So … for a non driving god such as myself do you reckon the standard rates will suffice ?
I’m only likely to ever do one/two trackdays a year.
Ta …
Ps. I’m now thinking revalving and respringing probably isn’t worth the additional cost for my needs …
But still happy for advice …
Id splash a little extra cash and go with the 260 settings.
Good manners on the road, gives the car the general feel it should have and even if you only do a couple of trackdays a year they will perform for you when you want them to.
John, Are you still looking to rebuild your Ohlins? If so have you had a quote?
I’ve just had my front pair of 36mm 2 ways fail (dripping oil), and I’m inclined to swap out the whole set for 46mm Nitrons.
Just FYI the NTR fast road jobbies come with 425/550, and the trackday ones are 450/600
I’m undecided whether to rebuild the Ohlins and stick them in a box so I can return the car to standard spec if / when I come to sell it…
If your car is nothing special buy a set of second hand Bilstiens for £100 put those in abox and sell the Ohlins for £600, put the £500 towards your Nitrons.
To get an accurate estimate I need to send them away , but on the phone I was told around 90 quid + vat labour + parts…
Springs cost about 80 quid I think.
So …it could approach a grand
I may just get away with a simple fix to the spring platforms tho…
Definitely costly things to have on the car imo…
I believe the spring platforms have been revised since mine were manufactured.
I just got mine back from Ohlins; rebuild & revalve. I had installed 550/800 springs and was at the limit of what the stock valving could do. Cost was $85USD per corner for the rebuild plus $200USD for the parts.
