S2 NA + Mods

I have also looked for this information on the net, but could not find feedback from anyone who would have tried on an S2 Elise or Exige. The end of the intake manifold, where the throttle body is place is slightly different. What seems to be possible however is to combine a Corolla manifold with a R9k manifold, as the end of the R9k manifold seems to align with the Celica one :

I spoke with r9ktuned about this the other day - they said they werenā€™t sure about fitment as it does have an angle to the end where the throttle body mounts (similar to the Corolla) so I ordered a Corolla intake to see if that would work in our cars - will let you know when I get itā€¦

It will be interesting to see indeed ! There seems to be a few bhp to gain with some small tweaks to the intake ā€¦

Yes indeed! I noticed some Corolla owners reporting up to 8bhp just from porting the intake manifoldā€¦ but then, it seems you really canā€™t always trust forums for bhp gains sometimesā€¦ Mineā€™s at 210bhp and it feels like it - but according to a lot of these forums it shouldā€™ve been much more than that, so I donā€™t necessarily believe everything I read nowadays

US based forum by chance? They seem to have smaller horses than us. But like their gallons.

Either way just use a dyno as a tuning tool and donā€™t jump from one to the other.

Would be interested in seeing results from port matching on gaskets

The Corolla manifold turned up today and after a bit of guesswork and fiddling, I think it should probably squeeze in there. So Iā€™ve done the only sensible thing (as-per man-maths guidelines) and ordered the r9ktuned plenum and gasketsā€¦ Need to find someone to port the Corolla intake runners for me and then Iā€™ll get it installed!

Speaking of whichā€¦. Does anyone have any recommendations for someone that would port the intake runners?

If they happen to be able to bore out the throttle body at the same time, I guess that would be perfectā€¦

Good news on the fitment, following this with interest. Canā€™t help with the porting, but I do understand there are some decent gains to be made there

I know that the company Webbs Styling does it :

Hello Matt,
Iā€™m a french guy and I just discovered your post. Iā€™m following it with interest. I own an elise 111R so with the same 2ZZ engine, Iā€™ve been looking at the R9K plenum for a long time but without knowing if it was possible to install it.
My goal is to stay in atmospheric. Do you have any news about the R9K plenum and the installation ?
If you have any advice for the preparation of this engine Iā€™m interested.
Thanks a lot

Just waiting for my ported intake runners to arrive, then I have everything I need to try it outā€¦ Will update when I make some progress

Edit: Just been sent pictures of the finished job, hopefully will get them sent to me very soonā€¦

Hi matt

Just caught up first time reader.

Fantastic thread and journey, look forward to hearing about inker manifold

Which service provider did you end going for Matt ? Did you try Webbsstyling as shared above ?

Nico

Yep, he is sending it today, so hopefully will have more to share very soon!

Oh ! Grest news !

Iā€™ve taken the opportunity to tart-up my engine bay while I wait

Iā€™m sure Iā€™ll get bored of it soon enough and return it to graphite/black, but for now, Iā€™m quite happy with Kermit sitting behind me :lolno:

For reference (and to try to appear even slightly sane) I took the colour scheme from my Lotus hoodie, which is dark grey and bright greenā€¦ My car is dark grey, so I thoughtā€¦ why not!?!

Ported intake runners arrived today, so I have all the right bits nowā€¦

The porting itself looks nicely done

Now I just need to find a couple of hours to have a play with it all!..

very good news!
Canā€™t wait to see how it all settles in the lotus.
do you keep the same throttle body ?

I think on my 111R itā€™s not quite the same because Iā€™m in DBW

Iā€™m by no means an expert, but I canā€™t immediately think why the DBW throttle body wouldnā€™t be compatible with this - my guess is that it would just work? Iā€™m currently using the original throttle bodyā€¦ will possibly change it in due course if I feel the need, but the engine already feels strong, so Iā€™m a little unsure what Iā€™m even trying to achieve, lol! I think Iā€™m just addicted to modding! :joy:
