Just had a test drive in a S2 Exige S - WOW! - The difference between it and standard S2 Exige is huge especially in power delivery, what an overtaking tool! Anyone else had a go? I’d be interested to hear any comments especially from anyone with a 240R. I’ve driven both (one on track the other on the road) and my feeling is that the S feels faster (it was loaded with all the packs as it was the press car so maybe it just felt better! Probably makes it a similar price too!!).According to my Lotus passenger the second cam comes it at varying rpm’s depending on engine load, speed etc whereas the 240R is fixed.
Hi, welcome!
You’re not the first to say it felt faster than the 240R. Anybody know if the gearing is the same?
The overtaking could be the most useful thing about the charger as there are reports that it’s not much quicker than a std S2 on track.

I have been resisting going for a test dive in the S cos I know I’ll want one. Think it would fix what for me is the only real weakness of the S2 Exige - the relative lack of low down torque. Mind you, I find this is is only really an issue for relaxed road driving when you don’t feel like canning the car. Wind it up and the NA Exige is still a mighty quick A to B car by most standards.

Ive driven the s, and yes its quicker and the greater torque is nice…however not much happend on the cam change, which left me feeling a bit disapointed.

But that would be good for driving on the limit
I’ve driven an S and thought, although torquey, it felt flat compared with an unsupercharged Exige, and not much quicker flat out: without the marked cam change, it seemed less of an event to drive for sh1ts and giggles but day to day easier to live with.
Lotus can’t win - they get slated because the standard S2 cam change is sudden, & at a ridiculously high rpm for normal road use…
I know which I’d rather have

Slateds a bit strong. And the 10K to trade up from a year old car probably prejudices things
Yea I drove the s and while I could appreciate the lower cam delivery and smoother road manners the additional cost’smade me decide against.
Overall I don’t think it felt that much quicker at all.

The power delivery of the S is absolutely linear and just keeps coming right up 8000rpm. The difference in power compared to a NA Exige is only slightly more than 10% so any differences round a track are probably down to the driver. However, the S is easier to drive quickly, and more civilised on the road as you don’t have to rev to the noisy band to make it go very fast.

Ahhh… but then he’d have to put the roof back on!
I’ve told my dealer I’d like an S and he responded that he’d like to sell me an S. I supposed it all comes down to what he’s willing to give for my NA Exige. (The S isn’t officially here yet.)
Although mine did sound quite good while being caned this evening and annoyed a bunch of cyclists around the local lake.

Mark, come clean you have not resisted all SC powered Exige test drives have you…
Hi Ian,
Thanks for the welcome. The thing is the overtaking is the most important thing for me since at most I’d do 2 track days a year (1 hopefully in Lotus’s own cars )My car is used every day & the difference between the NA and SC Exige is very noticable - now where to find a good trade in and an S with those gorgeous forged alloys at a reasonable price!
I thought a trailer was required for all the spares - just joking I’d love to have an S1 too (yes I mean both not change from S2 to S1).
