I wonder how much it weights??Ian [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif[/image]
Isn’t this another development along the lines of the Esthi? But this one wouldn’t have the Lotus approval, would it? Still, looks nice, specially the fact that it comes in kit form and so you could retrofit this to an older Elise (or write off).Uldis
Just had a quick chat to Simon. He said he’d be disappointed if it weights more than 950kgs.For the 18k you only(!) get 260bhp & 5-speed box. It’s more like 30k fully kitted to 315bhp & 6-speed.Something interesting he did say was that he thought the Esthi had hit trouble because Audi weren’t going to provide the engine any longer.I told him to come visit us here with updates.Ian [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif[/image]
So its a 50k car then, to full spec…Exige with the TypeR would come in at around 30k for 220bhp. Supercharging a VTEC block, while not easy, is do-able, and would leave you with similar power, and a lighter car to boot. Even then you’d be looking at about 10k cheaper than this V6 Elise…How much was the Esthi? 80k, wasn’t it?
I think this sounds like another interesting development, which gives us all another route to more power if we decide to (or need to) take the plunge. I wonder how it handles with 200mm more length & width??
I think it’d certainly stop better. Although Simon hasn’t yet been able to find get super sticky (39/48) rubber for it yet.It hasn’t yet tempted me away from the Honda as a prefered route.MattyB, I think Joe would tell you 300bhp would be possible without a charger. I think Russ’ std Jap K20A is in the region of 250bhp. Russ?Ian [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif[/image][This message has been edited by IDG (edited 30 May 2003).]
Ian, I was told that the Jap spec Type R was 220 standard…but with a little playing around with the ECU & TB, it may get as high as 260+, but this is unconfirmed.
IDG"Something interesting he did say was that he thought the Esthi had hit trouble because Audi weren’t going to provide the engine any longer."Where does that info come from?
Ian,Take a peek at my latest creation: http://www.prototyperacing.com/dynok20b.htm and this one as well: The Temple of VTEC - Honda and Acura Enthusiasts Online - Articles - Wowowow!!!: Pushing the limits My engine is still all original internally, the other one was built by a friend of mine. Nearly all Formula Atlantic cars use his headers, and he’s recently decided to attack the K20A market. We’re working together on development of HP producing bits to increase your driving pleasure. As I’ve said, this is just the beginning!Cheers,Joe
Joe,my compliments, the way you’re going through the development seems absolutely logic, and that exhaust is a work of art! [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image]Uldis
Joe, Your still using the crappy standard silencer box [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/blush.gif[/image]There will be a few more horses available when that gets changed [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image]
Cheers Joe, is that just manifold and ECU then?Ian [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif[/image]

My immediate reaction would be that this is an unsubstantiated and false rumour. Unfortunately my contact at B-D is on honeymoon until next week. I have trawled the internet including the German sites and there is no mention anywhere. Further my understanding is that we are not dealing with an ‘offer’ that can be withdrawn on a whim but a contract to supply. The emergence of a SEAT with the RS4 engine would be an issue between the SEAT converter and Audi.Further, the stop on supply would dramatically affect Farboud (todays Sunday Times) who have spent a great deal of time and money developing this engine to 550bhp.Time will tell, probably next week.
I have checked with B-D and they assure me that the rumour about difficulties with supplies of the Audi biturbo engine are complete black propaganda. They have a legally binding contract for the supply of the engines and there are no disputes over their supply. They do though take a dim view of people starting false rumours, so maybe Simon Scleater should be a little more cautious. Incidentally I know of another reason why said rumour cannot be true.
Ken, I really didn’t get the impression he was starting the rumour.Could that other reason be you have your car now?! No, that is not the reason. Car is due end of July begin August.Reason is quite simple, Audi stopped making and supplying this engine last year! Esthi engine is contractually supplied by another party who holds 25 units for B-D.
