2007 S2 Exige 2ZZ Normally Aspirated with Drive By Wire Throttle. the Car is standard apart from the Lotus Sport Exhaust. I’m about to fit the TRD air filter, but I have an ongoing annoying issue where the car has a slight hesitation, surging issue, which is more noticeable from cold, but it does it most of the time and is more pronounced on slight/partial throttle openings. The car idles perfectly and does not hunt or stall.
I had the throttle body cleaned at last service which does not seem to have sorted it, and before I start swapping MAF and/or TPS sensors I just wanted to see if anyone else had experience the same issue. Is there anything else to check? Is the DBW (Drive By Wire Throttle) adjustable? Could the pedal switch be sticking, can it be lubricated?
I will guess oil vapor in your intake system… Take off the intercooler tubes and clean them out. Clean out the intercooler the best you can and remove the MAP (or whatever the F^cking thing is on the right side of your intercooler) and clean it off. There is special cleaner for MAP/MAF sensors, so use that. The whole problem is that there is a slight film of oil on the MAP/MAF sensor and skews the readings to the ECU. The oil on the K&N filters does the same thing. If you don’t have catch cans on your car, seriously consider getting them for this reason alone.
thanks for the reply. My car is normally aspirated though (not supercharged) but I’m guessing the MAF on the air box to intake pipe could be contaminated? I’ll try and whip it off this aft and check it.
The throttle body is a known problem on these cars. Cleaning them doesn’t seem to help out either I’m afraid if it’s a TB problem.
They are also susceptible to air leaks from the inlet manifold gasket. Depending on how bad a leak you have will cause fluttering and stalling if bad enough.
Try swapping out the maf but they are pretty robust to be fair it’s usually one of the other two that will show its head first.
