Hi I currently have a s2 111s - 4 mths old, I purchased it after initially wanting an Exige but went for the “softer” option because I needed to use it as an everyday car. I’m now in the possession of a company vehicle and I’ve started to secretly look at pictures of Exiges behind my Elises back!I am so tempted to px the 111s for an Exige, but I’ve already lost a fair bit on the new Elise. I’ve already started to mod my car and I’m thinking “stop” buy the car you wanted and have done with it and save yourself some cash!My missus will kill me! but if I’m crafty and get the right colour she’ll never notice [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif[/image]Really want to hear your views, especially from people who have done the dirty on their Elise.Cheers CG
Capt’n,You’ve committed the first step, the rest will be inevitable. I had a brand new VX220 for nine months and as like you, I went for the softer option instead of buying an Exige. A quick peak on this site had me hooked and I traded it in for an Exige nine months later. It’ll happen - stop the modding and get the Exige. The hard part is talking the misses around [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif[/image]Rgds,James
Cheers Duggan,I’m gonna have to see what money will be involved, but the Missus shouldn’t be too hard to convince as she doesn’t get the chance to come in it much anyway! It just seems such a waste to trade in after 4 months - but I dare not make any serious mods to the car as warranty will be void.CG

Capt GFX just do it.It seems to be the normal approach for a few of us Exige owners. I too had an S2 first and was certainly given the right advice from the delaer as i had not had a Lotus before and the exige at the time would have been too much.Of course as fate would have it you get into track days and you suddenly get hooked and it takes over your life (well it has for me anyway) and you realise that you now NEED an exige.Do it you will never regret it. Then book on to the following thread to do Donington in August. Mark. SELOC Forums
Let’s face it, you are not happy with the 111s!There are three options:i) Keep the 111s, and modify it! Very costly, but this depends on how far you want to go.ii) Sell the 111s, and purchase the Exige - probably the best option, but the wife may need convincing.iii) Keep the 111s, sell the wife, then get the Exige - ideal solution, you get to own both cars.I know which option I’d go for - option (iii) [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/wink.gif[/image]Seriously tho, search this website for comments on the disadvantages of the Exige, for instance: it can get very hot in the cockpit, which can be unbearable in the summer; lumpy when driving in town; etc. There’s tons of info on this BBS.

Guys,I guess I’m following a pretty worn path here, I bought the s2 having never done a car trackday. It was an absolute eye opener, I can now see where the Elise (let alone the Exige) was created for. Before this point I was happy to potter around in my shiney new Elise with a few bods stopping to stare, but since the trackday I no longer feel the need to push on quite as hard on the road as I know there is a better place to hone ones skills. Now I’m not exactly driving the Elise on the limit, but I’ve got this urge to . . . buy an Exige! Can anyone explain this need for an even better car when I can not thrash my Elise into submission yet?I’m also in the position not to use the car on an everyday basis, which I was when I bought the Elise.BTW - We’re not actually married yet even though we do have two boys, as long as I’m happy she’s happy or that’s what she tells me when she’s in a good mood!KP,Option 3 sounds great but who the hell is going to do the cooking and cleaning? CG
the only real answer is to have both , i traded my S1 for an exige and i had to have it , i couldnt resist but i have to admit there are days when you dont want to drive so aggresively and would like to have the top down and just cruise around … i had the same revelation after my track day , it just isnt worth taking risks on the road when you know theres a way better place to drive fast … but you wont be happy until youve got one now youve been bitten and if you havent driven one yet dont ! otherwise you wont sleep until you own one !!
Fork Me Roger, the missus would do an Irish Jig on me nadgers if I had an Elise and an Exige, plus I can’t afford them both.Great idea though
how much do you think your lose on the elisehave you rang around the dealers for prices yet on a trade in
CaptChoice was between S2 111s, S1 160 Sport or Exige - tried all of 'em - only one winner and I love it to bits - non regrets. Takes 20 years off your age (physical and mental!)every time you get in the little beggar. Buy, buy, buy… [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image]
I can’t imagine loosing much more than 100. Afterall it’s only 4 mths old [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif[/image]I haven’t actually had a price on it yet, I think sales are quite good on the 111s at the mo, but dealers are always going to want shift new cars. 22 - 23k trade in?

Reason I ask is that I am thinking of moving on from the Exige… Flame suit zipped up and extinguisher at hand…Tempted to go for 340R, but a 111s has a certain charm about it.May consider a swap?Have a laser blue, currently undergoing a engine rebuild. Never tracked and in very tidy condition. Would have to think long and hard, but a convertible coming up to the summer is tempting?[This message has been edited by Tubbs (edited 20 February 2003).]

Thus have had the thing rebuilt and the 190 upgrade fitted to it as well.Nothing wrong with the car, just one of those things…
