i know a lot of S1 didnt comes with the air con but can it be retro fitted back if it doesn’t come with it original? because it would be much more helpful in the winter to defog the window??
Big job, but yeah I guess anything is possible. The OE lotus system is unbelievably complicated though as all of the heater controls and nuematic (sp). So if you are going to do it and my advice would be not to, is dont try and exactly emulate the S1 Lotus system
probably easier to build a garage!
the OEM Lotus System was such a bad construction that I’ve removed it.
sorry to refer to such an old thread…
my air con never worked well enough to cool in summer or defog in winter…
removed it
Another option …
1.46 on Amazon and weighs about 2 ozs!
Plenty of 2nd hand systems around from the guys that have removed them.
If you need working aircon then buy an S2.supercharged (a few left at Lotus…or whatever the co is called now !!)
Nevertheless S1’s rule
I see you have quickly retracted your ‘apology’ about the Exige S2 Clive!
BTW… how is the VHPD oil leak?
i love the S1 but it will be much more convenient if it had a air con for me…since i need to sell to the Mrs how great is the S1 compare to the S2
Just sell the Mrs.
Alan Betts made upgrade kits in Asia for it. He ran the ex Candena car. I called him in Bangkok and discussed it in detail in 2008. He had 2 kits still in stock back then. Basically change to a redtop race battery to increase the space avail up front, increase the blower fan to a larger size japanese made one, and increase condensors sizes. He also added ducting to increase the flow in.
He also noted that there was an electrical glitch with the original Lotus set up in that the Stack system automatically added 2 (non existent) degrees to water temp when the a/c was turned on.
The original system is next to useless in that it doesn’t have enough flow. On mine there was actually cold air coming out but after 5cm it vanished - the fans are just not strong enough and the cabin rear wall where the majority of the heat comes from is not sealed well enough.
The best answer is simple - Honda !
