S1 tyre sizes

Hi guys,

Probably sacrilege to even consider this, but is there anything wrong with running wider tyres than OEM sizes?

I’m tempted to go for 215/45/16 front and 245/40/17 rears. Compared to the original set up, the overall diameter and side wall thicknesses are nearly identical, increasing both axles equally by 20mm.

Has anyone else got this set up or similar to it? I won’t be tracking the car on this set up, just for the road.

Cheers

Is there any reason (apart from perhaps cost) why you are considering this?

Possible interference with arch liners, especially at the front on full lock? Also heavier steering at low speeds?

Depending on how accommodating your MOT tester is, you may have issues with the amount of tyre covered by the wheel arch.

Only reason would be a wider stance look, and I know a “friendly” MOT tester.

I’ve gone up to 205 45 on the front as you couldn’t get AD08R in the stock width. I do get some rubbing on the arch liners on full lock but I had that on 195s anyway. I think another 10mm might be pushing it depending on your suspension setup.

I run Nitron NTR 40s, if I get rubbing I’m not all that worried, was just thinking if the wheels can take the extra widths then why not.
Think I’ll give 215/245 a go, heard the AD08RS tyres aren’t as good as the older AD08R tyres but we’ll see, can’t think of a better tyre to go for instead.

I’ve just moved from AO48’s to Advan AO52’s been very impressed so far…

I use them as track tyres, great tyre!
