Now that I have sold my S1 Exige I am having second thoughts about my plan to get a cheaper Elise to go sprinting with
I am therefore mulling over options and one possibility is to get an NA S2 Exige with Performance pack and aircon. I was wondering if anyone has experience of both and how they compare? Will I be disapointed with the S2 after the hardcore S1? It would be for weekend fun, a few track days plus occassional European trip.
I must admit I found the S1 a bit too hardcore for my requirements , it was brilliant on track but too tiring on the road, so I would like something that I can just blast down to the Nurburgring in and have a good time while I’m there without worrying about breaking down all the time (to be fair my S1 never actually broke down!)
The other option I am considering is a Ducati 1098, so by talking me into an S2 Exige you could actually be saving my life
I owned an S1 for 3.5 years & had similar issues to what you describe
I had use of a N/A S2 for a couple of weeks & loved it. I moved from S1 Exige to 111R to Exige 240PP with no regrets. The 'yota lump is fine & much easier to live with day to day, just like any car really. The s/c cars are the same but with more straight line oomph.
I doubt you’ll miss much going from S1 to N/A S2, although IMHO the S1 has the looks.
I have had an S1 for about 5 years and had an S2 for about a year. Loved the S2, it was much nicer as a road car, but still too comprimised as an every day proposition for me.
However the S2 did feel lardy on track compared to the S1 and was obviosuly loads slower (flame suit on)
I’ve gone from NA S2 Exige to an S1 Exige in the last 18 months. Had the S2 Exige for 2 years as an everyday car and it was great. I decided to get something else for the everyday commute and then ended up feeling that the S2 exige wasn’t special enough for me to keep it in the garage as a toy. So sold it and got the S1 Exige. Which in my mind at least is special enough for me to keep as a weekend toy. It’s georgeous!
I’d not go back to an S2 again unless I had plans to use one for everyday, and if I did I’d go for an SC one as I found the NA power delivery very tiring after a while.
This is one of my concerns - is it special enough to last as a toy?
If I ran it as a daily driver the budget would stretch to a SC. How was it as a daily driver??

I ran my previous Exige S as my only car for almost 2 years and 25k miles. No problems as a daily driver but it helps if you’ve got the creature comforts like air con and the touring pack with the probax seats.
Yeah if your gonna have an S2, deffo get one with aircon. When I had my S2, the AC was on all the time, when I didn’t have the window down to keep the car mist free.
