S1 Exige rear engine covers

I was just wondering out curiosity, is there a list somewhere of the various engine covers on these cars? Preferably with pics?

I’ve noticed quite a few different ones, and was wondering whether they are different in any material way - apart from cosmetically?

I think it would require a mega search across the site to pull up all the various threads on covers; although if you wait patiently there’s usuallt someone along who can point you at a particular thread

Thanks, in that case I suspect the best place to see them will be at an Exige owners meet

Jas - off the top of my head I can think of 3 main options:

  1. Standard perspex
  2. Standard motorsport
  3. Hybrid of above two

And there is also a lightweight, non vented version that a few of us use because it’s better for aero.

Steve, thanks  That hybrid one in the pic looks fantastic

Jamwill, thanks  That appears to be the one on my car  The downside of this one is no rear view. I’ve had fun reversing the car since I picked her up a couple of days ago :stuck_out_tongue:

Rear view camera is the way to go for that.

Thanks

I’ll see if I can get used to it, but will otherwise look into installing one in Winter.

Hi All

I’ve just bought an Exige fitted with the Motorsport engine cover and couldn’t get on with the lack of rear visibility especially when reversing.

Got over this by fitting Alpine head unit with flip out screen and rear camera mounted in the nearside rear grille.

Huge improvement.

Thanks Simon.

I’m geting used to having no rear view, but am definitely considering installing a camera. I’ll see how I get on, and how easy the install appears.

I am considering the style of screen that replaces the rear view mirror, so I have a permanent rear view, just like in a normal car.

In fact this now gives me an idea to post a topic on seloc and see what more knowledgeable people than me have done.

Jas

get some of these

BUT do not use the sticky pads supplied to fix in place as the mirror will protrude from the housing and look crap, also they are very hard to position. I used good old araldite. That way you can slide and move until positioned correctly…then hold in place with tape over night until dry. As they used to say on SELOC “jobs a carrot”

Thanks Scoob, I’ll look into those

Jas.I had the same issues as you re rear view when I bought my exige s. First thing I did was remove the rear view mirror as it was useless.Give it time and you will soon get used to it and the mutivex mirrors do help. IMO rear view camera/exige do not go together. Especially on the car I think you have bought.

I’ve bypassed the handbrake wire so that the screen can be used all the time. Rather than struggle to thread the cable through the cable run into the cabin I managed to release the roof slightly and pass it through the rear window rubber, down behind the passenger seat and tucked it in under the centre console.

I considered using the screen you mentioned but the tricky bit is concealing the cable in the roof.

Scoob, thanks but I’m wondering why you say the Exige does not go together with a camera?

My car’s already got no mirror, as there’s zero rear view anyway.

Simon, if I do go for a camera then I’d also have it on permanently. I’m not overly concerned about concealing the cable as my car is pretty stripped out with a few cables visible anyway

Which rear view system have you used? I have been trying to find one which is Ok to have on all the time and, if possible, to give a reverse image like a mirror.
