Why not try and sand it down and spray some clear on it again? Thats the plan I have for one of mine.
Its not for me - someone in OZ is looking for a complete one
Andy, I have one in bubble wrap in the loft in my garage. I’ve never looked at it and I do not even know what colour it is nor what condition it is in but when I bought it I was told that it was OK. It will be expensive, of course, as these are made of ‘unobtanium’ - see this thread…
ENGINE COVER THREAD
Do you want me to dig it out?
Cheers Mike - let me contact the guy in OZ - I know they were about 1200 quid new - let me see if he really wants one that bad
OK, Perhaps I should check that it is not delaminatiing , but let’s see if he knows the price of unobtanium… (I promise to be reasonable to secure a deal!)
Mine was delaminating as well and then when the Meguairs polishing gurus down here got hold of it and they made it worse. Not a problem, their public liability insurance kicked in and a very good panel and paint company in Mount Maunganui painstakingly sanded it back over countless man hours before mirror polishing it back to full transparent lustre before lacquring. And hey presto its now bettr than it was brand new. So don’t worry if its delaminating it is recoverable.
The de-laminating being discused here is where the frame starts to part company with the perspex cover, i dont see how that could be fixed
can you still buy new from Lotus? or any other after market one?..suppose u can always go for the motorsport cover if really cant find any…
I had one once that had the perspex painted in gloss black to cover the de-laminating up, looked ok to be honest just looked like it had been tinted.
Here’s a pic

when I got my panel it had delaminated that badly it had actually parted company to the frame! so I helped it along a little and completely removed the glass from the frame, then primed it with the correct glass primer and bonded it back together with windscreen bond and hey presto ! it’s as good as new
