Hi All
New on here. We have a S1 190 with 28k on the clock in Laser Blue. Owned for 6mths & now HGF. Where can I get a w/shop manual or at least instruction for removing the engine to get the job done. I presume its best to fetch it all out to do the job & are there any other things I should consider while its apart
Thanks
Lotus will sell you a workshop manual,or a dealer, not cheap but very usefull.

You don’t want a Honda
I’d leave the engine in situ to do the head gasket. Removal of rear clam makes it all quite accessible.
Ensure you use the upgraded head gasket though
You can download workshop manual off the web somewhere - I’m sure someone will be along to say where
Wouldn’t mind a link to the workshop manual if it’s available online somewhere…
PM if more appropriate…
Thanks!
Ensure the head is flat and not softened (95 brinell or above), also ensure the liners protrude from the head surface by 4-5 thou (0.1mm), use the latest Payen BW750 gasket with regular elastomer seal.

If you do decide to remove the engine, remove it gearbox and all!
I made the mistake of thinking I could leave the driveshafts and gearbox in and unbolt the engine from the bellhousing…there isn’t quite enough clearance to get the engine out and you enp up in a whole world of hate!
Learn by your mistakes…I learn alot!
If you are completely stripping the engine, there is plenty else that can be/needs to be undertaken to improve reliability.
By all means send me a PM and I will be happy to explain.

I got a workshop manual on disc off eBay for a fiver, I think it was.Covers Elise with exige supplement.
Found the Lotus Elise Workshop manual on-line (PDF format)
No Exige supplement I don’t think, but it should be pretty useful anyway!
Dave - double check the elise one as exige section is at the back of the one I’ve got.
Cheers,
