S1 discs

The discs are about ready for replacing on my Exige. So I am looking for some advice on the best options.

The car is used most of the time on the road with a few track days each year it has standard calipers.

I was going to put AP alu belled discs on the front and standard ones on the back would this be OK.

Cheers Paul

Hi Paul,

My Exige had EP ali belled discs on it when i bought it and it was a great improvement over the standard discs that were on my elise before it. (same pads too)

Definate good upgrade in my opinion!!

Got AP’s on the front and standard on the back of my S1-works well.

2nd that - it may not be the utimate setup but is more than capable for the use you have indicated.

‘Thirded’. Although, my rear discs will need replacing very soon, so I’m likely to stick my 295 APs on the back, and get the biggest possible ones for the front.

Even on standard calipers, braking is much improved, and the discs last much longer.

295 don’t fit on the back with a standard set up do they? Thought 290 was the max on the rear.

I think you can get brackets to move the calipers out to suit the bigger discs.

Thought the brackets were only for alloy uprights? Exiges use steel rear uprights.

Edwards Boyz???

I’m also interested in this.

Thinking about a disc upgrade, what’s the ultimate setup for the S1 in terms of sizes?

Using standard uprights ?

As far as I know the rear is limited by the standard Brembo - to 280 - the front can be up to 308 using Alcon (or AP) rotors.

I have a pair of special rear bells and AP rotors to suit standard rear calipers if anyone wants them as I have upgraded to Motorsport uprights with 295 rotors and 2 pot rears with a spot handbrake caliper.

I thought the smallest AP rotors you could get was 290mm… at least as shown on the Eliseparts website.

From Eliseparts I guess so - I went for AP CP4530-160/1 280mm diameter with 4 grooves and had some custom bells made for them.

The CP4530 are not low cost but seem to last very well.

Provisionally sold

I have 295’s on the rear with standard brakes.

You have to grind a small amount from the caliper, but they do fit

i thought you had grind the caliper to fit the 290 disc on the rear dave? May be wrong though.

Hurrah!

308s on the front and 295s (with some mods) on the rear it is then. Phew

Apologies - Chris is right - mine are 290’s on the back (which you do have to grind the caliper slightly to fit.

Sounds good… 290s on the rear and 295s or something on the front. Should be all good.
