I dont mind about the heat and noise…
If you currently have a TT and are contemplating an S1 the only real advice is to go and drive one because it is a radically different proposition.
You’ll either ‘get it’ and be prepared to swallow the inevitable compromise that goes with running one (esp in London) or you won’t.
Personally I would never consider an S1 as my only car unless the only time I needed a car was for trackdays/jaunts…I’m a southern poofter though

Just what Ian wanted to know after you posted this on the Donington Trackday thread:
I just booked a twin for me and Ian
lol
Ian has shared a room with me on many occasions so he knows the deal
In fact last time it was a threesome with me, Ian and AndyD

I will really use the car on weekend for getting out of the big smoke in to the countryside, trackdays and a few trips to the ring. I mainly use public transport (ahem) during the week. oh and I might pop to the super market in it
Then my previous advice still holds…go and drive one and see if you still feel the same way.
The yellow one looks gorgeous but I would say that as it looks just like mine. I’ve had it for almost 18 months(bought privately against all my instincts) and costs have been manageable. Cambelt change, full C service 500.Between services oil/filter change 90. New set of leads to cure misfire(it didn’t) 52.
MoTs etc.
Not too bad, but worth every penny when you weigh the fun that you will have against a diminishing bank balance.
Yesterday (Tues) I drove for the hell of it from north Lancs to the outer limits of Cumbria in stunning spring sunshine and it was the best day of the year.
You’ll get the picture when you buy one. Go for it. I did.
I know, I love the yellow! What I am more concerned about is whether anyone knows the history of this car and whether I am daft buying one with this kind of mileage?? Thommo, what spec did you buy yours at?
cheers
If I were you, I’d carefully check the history. I have no reason to believe it’s one of them, but a few Exiges were used by Silverstone & Rockingham for driver experience days. Those cars were ragged.
With that sort of mileage I’d suggest a “contingency fund” of at least 5K, & even more depending upon condition of brakes (pads & discs)/tyres/shockers/exhaust/steering rack. You may well not dip into that fund, but if the need arises you’ll be thankful.
Running costs are reasonable for the type of car, but they are quite expensive to maintain properly. Even with road only use, change the oil/filter every 3K miles, & use a good fully synthetic such as Shell Helix, Castrol 10-60 or Mobil 1 (Motorsport variety). If you do trackdays, the running costs will soar.
Good luck
Hi there
Have covered 56k in my S1 - had 2k on the clock when bought. Used it more or less as first car for first few years, less more recently. It has been extremely reliable and if you can carry out the majority of work yourself (they are very straightforward mechanically)- they are not too expensive, Parts are reasonably priced. Oil change every 3k miles, warm engine up gently etc, etc. - head not yet been off - hope I don’t regret saying that I know that some owners have had big bills esp on engine front.
Big prob is they are now 7 years old and there are some questionable examples, with gaps in their histories, out there - even with low mileages, best advice is buy the best you can afford, low ownership turnover, take someone along who knows Exiges and wait for the right example to come along.
Buy a good 'un and you are set up with smiles for life
Hey up Simon - mines on about the same.
Are we having a ‘Big Bang Sweepstake’
You’re more than welcome to have first bang Simon
When are you getting your ass (sorry Exige) up to the Buckles stranger
Right then… who is around the South East to East London area on Saturday and wants go and have a look… or I could get one of you on the mobily when I am there? Think its by the Dartmouth Tunnel area…
I’m waiting while the boss get back to work and I can save up for new innards.
Re Buckles - the salt is putting me off!
Better try and get my ass up there even if it’s in the big smoker!
I also have another distraction… 6 months old already

Simon’s advice is very sound, unless you really know cars then it would pay to take someone who knows Exiges with you - try posting on SELOC, there’s many a southern pooter that frequents there
Alternatively, see if the seller will allow you to take it to Sinclaires they’re not far from the tunnel and for a fee they should be able to appraise it for you.
Top tip Steve - Sinclaire’s - a few quid spent on expert inspection can result in future big savings

Mine is standard 177. Lovely lumpy tickover etc. Sports seats, full harnesses. Had 14.5K on when I bought it. Now 20.

OK. OK, from Garstang ( not quite north Lancs) to the eastern fringes of Cumbria . . . it was still great fun

Good idea, that should put my mind at ease. Apparently the previous owner was a mechanic and has “fastidiously” maintained the car himself… I just hope he’s not a cowboy!
