S1 bulkhead sound deadening wanted

hey all, just nosing around my cars engine bay, the bulkhead sound deadening with the silver foil type backing isn’t in great condition, does anyone have one in good nick available, or suggestion if these can be refinished in some manner?

Likewise the exhaust heat shield isn’t great, anyone have a good one going spare? My car has had its air con removed and the alternator moved to stop it overhearing but has left things a bit tardy … Cheers

It’s a bit of a job replacing that on the bulk head with the engine still in, mine was the same but I didn’t find it an issue. I’ve got a few pictures on my rebuild thread.

You wanna take that out and put some gold bling on there bud :sunglasses:

I’d love some gold bling Benja!

Can anyone recommend an adhesive silver shielding that I can patch the poor areas?

Thanks

Thanks Jonny that’s a great link, beats a strip of metal type gaffer tape which is all I found…

Elise Shop has some high spec stuff which looks impressive.

Hi, I’d be interested to know how you get on with this, mine is worn/tatty in the same place and I’d like to do something to tidy up the bulkhead/shielding without it being an engine-out job!

Keep us posted

Will do, I’ve marked it down for a winter mini project!

If i redo it, i will do it with the gold foil bling bling

Is it possible to change the bulk head heat shield without removing the engine? Seems not possible?

No it really isn’t

It took ages to remove the old adhesive as well.

thanks jonny…maybe i will leave that for later then!! Looks very time consuming…

I’m going to get one of the thin adhesive foils from the link Jonny shared. Make a cardboard template, cut the foil and fit across the upper half of the existing bulkhead shielding. Which I hope will bring it to a good standard without detracting from the original look. Ultimately be stuck to do more until a point if the engine needs to come out - which I hope isn’t in the near future!!!

Well, I’ve finally got round to replacing my heatshield with a shiny new one. Did it with the engine in situ, albeit with the rear clam removed. I made a template from the old one and used a sheet of Thermo-Guard FR http://www.thermotec.com/products/14120-thermo-guard-fr.html and their high-temp adhesive. Was tempted to go the reflecta-gold route but I wanted to keep the OEM look

(might still need some trimming in the final picture, when I put the finisher panel back on)

I’ve still got the paper template if anyone needs to borrow it

Bloody hell I stand corrected :astonished:

Yours is none AC right? Mine was nowhere near as burnt as that.

Mine is AC but I had the alternator and compressor removed in the photo (ac pipes are just visible tucked out the way). I, um, may have had a bit of a fire in the engine bay which destroyed the old heatshield  - that’s not just normal wear & tear!

:astonished: Oh I see. All good now though

Split CV joint gaitor, grease on a hot exhaust?
