S1 Brake Discs - advice needed

Got to get a new set of front discs as I’ve got terrible judder starting to come through. Running Pagid 42s for the past few years but am going to try the 14s with the new discs.

Need some advice on what you guys recommend? I’ve still got the originals on the Exige and am looking at the Eliseparts Aluminium discs - have you used them & what do you think? Other recommendations??

Usual activity - most mileage done on track & about 5 or 6 track days a year. A bit of driving on the road - not too much really - apart from the annual pilgrimage to Anglesey of course!

Cheers

Mark

I went from the originals to the Eliseparts ally belled discs and found no difference in performance but a little satisfaction that they were lighter than the originals.

I have them on the front and rear with no problems but I know of a couple of owners suffer from cracked discs, I was advised to get the grooved one’s

Thanks for that info. I’ll give them a bell & see what they say about cracking.

I has a set of EP Ally Belled disks on my last S1 and managed to warp them at Donnington… :frowning:

Their advice about if you have more than 190BHP??? is probably good advice… I did not but I think the repeated high speed braking at Donny is pretty hard on disks.

IMHO, any doubt, go for a bigger rotor! The Alcon rotors on Nitron bells are great… as per Dave and S/L

I have cracked all the drilled discs i’ve had, only get grooved discs, if you can afford it get better rotors, but I think most have found on here the pads are the important bits when it comes to stopping rotors from getting ruined, most here seem to use performance friction pads, they are not bad for the rotors, but are very dusty especially when new!

Ade… is that true about ‘most’ using PF pads???

I HATED mine that came with Shrek! They made Soooo much dust, ATE disks and actually were really crap at stopping the car!!!

I swear by Pagid RS42’s… Minimal dust, work great and don’t eat disks, unlike Pagid RS 14’s… only bad bit is wooden when cold (which is not often!!!)

I said most, i should maybe have been clearer, most who do track days seems to use PF this is obviously not all. I however don’t think they are suitable for garage queens due to the excessive dust they seem to produce.

Yeah, everyone that does track days uses PF’s. RS42’s are great for garage queens who’s owners live on the other side of the planet

I have found that Mintex 1144 pads with flat discs work fine on my car and are cheap. Even when I had the turbo b16 engine I never experienced fade.

I have tried Mintex F stuff they seemed good but lasted less than two track days at Donnington and RS42 didnt last much longer.

Edit > sorry did not realise I had brought back an old post

I hear that Ferodo DS2500 is also good with minimal dust?
