s1 ap discs pads fitting problem.

i have just fitted a set of elise parts s1 AP discs and ali bells, seems the bell offset does not allow the disc to sit exactly in the middle of the caliper.

as a result the inner pad, albeit fairly new, does not quite fit into the slot between the caliper and the disc. on the other side the outer pad has indeed a mm or two play. the piston is right in and this is not the problem, it does not go in that far.

has anyone else also experienced this problem?

i could fit an older set of pads, but this problem will occur every time i am fitting new pads.
btw the pads are pagid 42’s.

This doesn’t sound right. It is either a wrong installation or a bad design.

thanks for the reply george, the installation is correct. i have now installed a set of pads with just a few hours driving use and they fitted fine.

it seems the bell could be missing about 1mm of material from the face which sits against the hub.

i have measured the hub it and will check it against the drawings from andy.

Might seem a silly question but have you asked Elise Parts??

He was trying to do it on the weekend and could notz get hold of anyone from EP. I gave him my two week old pads and they fit…now i need to bed in another set.

i have measured the bells, more like plates than bells, anyway they are precisely the same as the ones on andy’s drawings. giving the same offset to the disc from the mounting face on the hub.

therefore the problem lies within the tolerances, either disc or the caliper hub assembly. anyway once the disc are a few tenths smaller the problem is gone.

and i had the rear discs turned down from 290 to 287 to avoid having to scratch out the inside surface of the rear caliper.

should be all up and running tonight…

Was it the same on both sides Mitch (left front and right front) ?

yes, exactly the same.

odd it is indeed.
