I really didn’t think it could sound much better than it did, but after fitting my exhaust on Friday, wow, it sounds amazing.Did anybody find a problem with low down grunt after fitting it, or is mine in need of an engine tune?
hmmmmm, How do you mean ? low down grunt is just something the Exige does not do !!!Have to agree the exhaust sounds very nice [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image]
I found there is more grunt low down with the standard sports exhaust. Ran on the Janspeed oval for a few hundred miles before changing it for C/Coombe but the race item goes back on for Le Mans (nice back fire from high revs for the cars behind)!! The oval system seems to make the car pull harder at 7000+
I assume we’re talking about the Lotus stainless steel sport (competition?) exhaust here, i.e. the one with the oval (as opposed to the ‘rounded end’ rectangle )tail pipe?If so, I had one fitted a couple of weeks ago. It does sound great but I’m not too sure about any noticable performance advantage, although the upgrade ‘bumph’ cribbed from the 340R site claims that it is worth about 10bhp at about 5500 rpm and an extra 3 or 4 at max power. (BTW I was told that the ‘standard’ exhaust is really only good for about 160 bhp which is perhaps why I’ve blown the baffles out of mine)There does seem to be a confusion of exhausts out there at the moment (or atleast, the way we refer to them doesn’t make it clear which one we mean). I nearly cancelled the order for my Lotus sourced item after a conversation with Simon Watts from Power Train Projects at The Sports Car Show at the NEC. They make and sell the ‘Janspeed’ (rounded end rectangle) variant for a lot less money and this seems to be the one I’ve seen fitted to most of the cars in the group which have replacement exhausts. Go here http://www.ptp-ltd.co.uk/viewPartDetails.asp for a look. (Mine looks completely different to this and is a true oval).Anyway, I like what I’ve got. It looks aggressive and sounds good. It might even be quicker as well!RegardsMike
Thanks for the reply mike,I got the one from eliseparts, have not had the car on the dyno yet is it is quite ill at the moment, very rotten on small throttle opening below 4000. The exhaust is oval and repackable, not sure on the make, however geary claimed to have seen a 7hp increase on one car and a 10hp increase on another. Will let you know once i have had a chance to dyno where there are any increases in the powerband.
Ahh that explains it, it’s Geary’s exhaust and not the Janspeed !!I noticed a great improvment on a 190 after replacing the standard exhaust with the Super Sports but haven’t tried Grearys on an Exige yet (it was fine on a VHPD Elise). I will be ordering one for my car along with the same size bore cat pipe which has the same size bore as the EBD manifold, very important for exhaust flow [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/wink.gif[/image].Let us know how you get on with the dyno results.
Phil, you will like it. according to Steve Butt, this one is the business…watch this space…got a booking at Emerald on 26.6.if Dave will be able to finish the job by then…have you chucked out the aircon to fit the EBD? did you replace the heating element?later,Bruno
Taking it in tomorrow, will let you know of any improvements.
Hi Bruno,Yep, already had Steve round to the house, he “borrowed” my cam sprocket when his stripped at Cadwell and saw the exhaust when i went to see Geary, i have one reserved [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif[/image]My air-con is all gone except the pipe work in the sill, saved loads of weight too [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif[/image]The heater matrix is still in place but i did remove the evaporator from its box.My head is now at CTM Performance for the head work, unfortunately Dave is too busy and i couldn’t wait any longer, there only 50 more than Dave was going charge for the labour, but obviously the parts will be at normal price rather than discounted [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/frown.gif[/image]26th eh, let us know when you are definately going and i might be able to take a trip to Emerald to meet ya [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif[/image]Phil
Hey Phil, that would be smashing to meet you…'cause I’m lost in London anyway…a bit worried, you know…in an Exige.well, you don’t really see much in that bloody thing, do ya…and sitting on the wrong side of the road doesn’t help…would be great if I could follow somebody through that horrible traffic…ahhh, that is a shame with Dave…I know, he is very busy…bugger…well, thank God you found somebody else…hmmm…yeah, the air con…hmmm…well done that you also got rid of it. when do you get your head back then? later,Bruno
I had a Janspeed Stainless Steel Superports Exhaust (would like to hear Chris Eubank try and say that) from Racespeed fitted about eight weeks ago.Sounds awesome - and it feels a lot smoother - less lumpy - to drive at lower revs (when I’m burbling through 30 and 40 limits you understand).Sure I read somewhere that it’s a bigger bore than the early SS Zorsts that Janspeed made - but I may have dreamed that.Cheers, Tim

Phil…nastrowje…not sure about the spelling [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image]Dave just started work on me head. he will take a week off to speed up things. the 26.6. could be done but it is a very tight schedule and I have to led bed in the new rings (floating pistons and all that)for at least 500 miles… Scotland here we come… [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image]I remember a BRG Exige living up there… [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image] a Scots nutter called Ally…so, I got another date from Karl, the 2.7.which is a Tuesday…any chance of a Southern meeting up at Emerald then?cheers,Bruno
BrunoQuick update for you - I took a front wheel to Colin on Friday - so you will definately have 4 wheels on the car when you return to the UK [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image]

Beware - just been banned from Castle Combe as my Exige registered 109.1 dB after 3 tests!!Now I’m trying to quieten it down again if I want to get on many circuits.
SteveWhat spec is your total exhaust that gets you thrown off tracks, cat pipe, box and manifold ??!!!
cheers, Rob, once again…later,Bruno
