This is really for the guys who have had them fail, what are the symptoms?
I have had a clanging for a couple of weeks which was getting worse, I had guessed as much it was the exhaust and was leaving it until it went back in for the gearbox thing, however after moving the car out of the garage today I noticed the exhaust is well off center, I tried to re center the tailpipe but it wont budge sideways however I can rock the exhaust on its axis and I get a loud clang when I do.
I spoke to the dealer who said it will just want tightning up? I fitted my last two exhausts on my K series cars and cant think how they would come loose so as to rock around?
I will have a crawl under on the weekend and have a look but does it sound like the bracket has failed? If so I’ll not bother messing about.
cheers
Boothy
p.s. its probably worth saying this sports exhaust is off my old exige S and was swapped onto my new one about a month ago, wondering if it did not like moving house…
i have had 8 stage 2’s fail, between 100 and 6000 miles lifespan for each. The main symptom is a metallic buzzing at about 4k rpm (sound emphasised e.g. in a tunnel) and this is caused by some mounting welds failing.
also a booming type sound is caused if the baffles fail, and a similar sound if the cat fails.
then theres a different type of tizz caused by the exhaust fouling the undertray.
if it wasnt for the fact i like the sound so much then i wouldn’t bother keeping my stage 2… in fairness all 8 replacements have been under warranty.
Well had a crawl under yesterday, firstly the dealer has stripped one of the 13mm head bolts so now it just spins and wont come out, phoned them and they are going to grind it off, I am not happy at all as the cars not 12 months old.
Hopefully they can re plug it and be a little more carefull next time!
The exhaust clamp was loose so I sorted that and stopped the rocking but I still have the clanging when driving
The exhaust seems to be loosing a lot of its packing too as its all over the rear of the car.
Cant get under for a proper look as obviously the tray wont come off but I still think its exhaust related, other than that I have heard off loose baffles in the fuel tankbeing a problem?? but that could be total cod sh*t
Who knows, its all good fun and its only clanging, just glad I can turn the stereo up
just get the dealer to sort it all, if still under warranty
Does anyone know how long the warranty is on a lotus dealer fitted sport’s exhaust?-mine has been on since the car’s first service 12 months ago-and I thought it was “tizzing”-but was checked last week at the dealer’s and was found to be ok.
Pete.

12 months I think Pete, might be worth taking the tray off and having a look yourself tbh. From what I could see the heat shield could possibly touch the exhaust and cause a tizz, also check the brackets etc.
I am not sure of the make up (internal design) of the lotus exhaust but mine seems to be loosing packing as its all over the rear of the car, however I have had loose baffles causing tizzing on a janspeed exhaust on my S1 before now.
Do packed exhausts still have baffles?
